Bush's War Comes Home: Plotting Revenge

Bush's War Comes Home
by Sidney Blumenthal, The Guardian

Bogged down in Baghdad, Bush laid seige to the Congress but was met with mutiny. Now he's plotting revenge.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1492198,00.html

President Bush's drive for absolute power has momentarily stalled. In a single coup, he planned to take over all the institutions of government. By crushing the traditions of the Senate he would pack the courts, especially the supreme court, with lockstep ideologues. Sheer force would prevail. But just as his blitzkrieg reached the outskirts of his objective, he was struck by a mutiny. Within the span of 24 hours he lost control not only of the Senate but temporarily of the House of Representatives, which was supposed to be regimented by unquestioned loyalty. Now he prepares to launch a counterattack - against the dissident elements of his own party.

1. And his precious stem cell research passed as well
Ratings are on an all time low and even sending his wife to Israel didn't help. Getting Bolton to the UN has become harder as well. So the Bush revenge will come soon.

5. I'm afraid so too
He's still not getting anything done like he wants and they control all of the government for the first time that they've been waiting for in thirty years. He still wants to go to war with Iran we all know and Syria too so what is he going to do? It seems to me the democrats are trying to hold things up until 2006 to where they can win more seats (hopefully).

3. Good article by Blumenthal, but I don't think Bush will ever muster enough
support to act on his need for revenge. He's through, his approval numbers are in a nosedive. Rethugs in the congress will be looking out for themeselves as 2006 draws nearer.

6. I hope you're right

8. "The Incredible Shrinking President" .
He and his policies are beginning to be rejected by the American mainstream. The fundies will be his only support group.

11. of course, it's not really about him
or rather I don't think he will be the one to decide what sort of retribution may occur. We'll see what Rove and Cheney have up their sleeves.

7. What revenge?
Ecellent stuff, but I must have missed the revenge part.

This article confirms the suspected coup in Republican circles and it enhances the picture that the Administration has lost its control and support of both the radical and the moderate fractions.

14. Who reads the "greatest" page?
Nothing against kicking worthy posts that are lacking attention, I'm guilty of that myself.

That this one has 6 "greatest" votes yet few responses over the past few hours to me says DU'ers to not visit the "greatest" page to see what other members in other forums consider to be the best.
