Interesting comparison between the USA and Roman Empire...
from a guy who writes up Alternative history scenarios, includes predictions of the future of the USA, with side by side equivelents with the Roman Empire.

Note: Look at what the military will call the wars in Syria and Iran, very amusing, but also disturbing in that they may ACTUALLY call them that.

1. I found it hilarious
The only thing he missed is that the 'rate of change' itself has speeded up.

2. Yeah, also liked the comments in the end...
especially how Bush could attain absolute power of a virtual monarchy, similar to an Emporer of Rome without destroying the constitution entirely. Maintaining the illusion of democracy would be essential, just like maintianing the illusion of a Republic was vital for Roman Emporers.

3. Here's another scenario...

4. amusing

But you should know that a running conceit among the (very Republican) WASP upper classes is to think of the US as the Roman Empire in its decline phase.

I prefer to think of politics since 1991 or so as a political recapitulation of the Civil War; the Confederates liked to imagine themselves as Romans too.
