Swift Boat Steve Gardner and Jeff Gannon take POLYGRAPH
May 31

Pax Puts Gannon on Polygraph

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 5/25/2005 3:25:00 PM

PAX TV may be cutting back on original programming, but at least one original series still on the schedule is putting a couple of high-profile figures in the hot seat.

On original series, Lie Detector, Jeff Gannon, the conservative blogger whose softball questions and run of the White House press room became a national story, hooks himself up to a polygraph to try and prove he is an independent journalist rather than a tool of the Bush administration.

But wait, there's more. The May 31 8-9 broadcast will also feature Steve Gardner, a member of John Kerry's Swift Boat crew who claims Kerry falisfied documents. He, too, will hook up to a lie detector to try and lend credence to his claims

1. not much of a challenge since sociopaths can pass
lie detectors without batting an eye. People with no conscience don't produce wild galvanic responses.

6. I know. That's why I didn't make much of it when Curtis passed.
Not saying he's a liar, but it's not much of a test.

15. I agree
I majored in Forensic Science. When we had a class on the polygraph the examiner who gave us a demonstration stated that pathological liars can pass a polygraph with no sweat. (excuse the pun)

Many foreign intelligence services train their agents to fool a poly. It's like witchcraft. It's only how much you believe.

2. Interesting
I wonder if it'll work. I've heard stories of people believing their own lies so well they pass the test. Anybody going to watch? Can we hook Bushie up?

3. And WHO will be doing the questioning?
Edited on Thu May-26-05 12:44 AM by Hissyspit
They will frame the questions so as to get the desired answer. Besides, lie detectors are one short step up from useless, anyway.

5. Finally, a Fair, Balanced, and Credible Investigation Into Their Claims

Done by someone who is completely and undeniably independent with no axe to grind in any way shape or form whatsoever.

I hope we can count on the normal level of quality that we have come to expect from fine PAX programming such as "Touched By an Angel" reruns, "Seventh Heaven" reruns, the ever-popular "Doc", and the hours upon hours of fantastic Carlton Sheets and Gazelle Elite infomercials.

7. Will Fristists be running the equipment?
I've never seen the show you mention, but the thought that comes to mind is

"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"

14. From the PAX website
http://www.paxtv.com/shows/liedet/episodes.cfm

113:
Tuesday, May 31st, 8/7c

Known for lobbing softball questions at current President George W. Bush, elite press core official “Jeff Gannon” came under scrutiny by democrats and fellow press core members, who discovered his real name is James Dale Guckert with a checkered past and possible agenda. Was “Jeff Ganon” fed questions by the Bush administration to use as talking points at White House briefings or just a man trying to overcome his past and pursue a career as a journalist? Additional segments include a man who tries to prove to his girlfriend that he is no longer smoking marijuana, and Steve Gardner, one of Senator John Kerry’s 12 swift boat crew members, who says he was threatened by a political operative, fired by his company and is currently broke because he refused to stand with Kerry at the Democratic Convention.
