Randi is right ... they have canceled the news
Listening to AAR as usual on the local station which airs "AP Network News" every half hour. The lead stories? Well, one hour it was Michael Jackson. The next hour it was American Idol. These were the lead stories on a national newscast, while Bush's imperial juggernaut continues its wholesale slaughter of all things, living and otherwise, that stand in its way!

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it's still disgusting.

2. I feel your pain
It's disgusting. Nevertheless, welcome to DU, and please make use of our Latest Breaking News section, which is an island of sanity. :hi:

4. It's not me I'm worried about
I pretty much get all of my news from offshore sources these days, including many of the links graciously provided by those who keep the LBN topic thriving here.

But what about the sheeple? It's no wonder we're messed up if this is what they consider "being informed." "News" today is all just a repackaged "Entertainment Tonight."

and it doesn't look like things will change anytime soon. Cable news ratings are down drastically, however, especially FAUX. That's brightened my outlook recently.
On edit: oops, this was supposed to be in response to the above post! Oh well, it gives me a chance to use this cool new "blush" icon.

3. I only listen to the local news about half an hour a day to
get weather and local information I need, like roads that are closed and stuff like that. Sometimes I will watch the CBC broadcast news or BBC, or Link Arab news. Other than that DU and the other internet sites are all the news I need because it's all the real news we need to know.

6. DU's LBN and Democracy Now! is now where I get most of my news
Funny you should bring this up, because I was waiting for the weather on the local Fox station, and one of the anchors went into some really quick and rather garbled story about a bomb blowing up in Iraq that killed a bunch of civilians. His inflection and intonation were so hurried and careless as he then thankfully segued into something completely local and totally trivial. I was really struck by the whole thing, and horrified, as usual, to realize how many of my fellow citizens were being "informed" about the carnage in Iraq from this broadcast.
