WHY is Shrub pusshing so haed for Bolton?
Listening to Voinovitch on the Senate floor now, and he said something about I have some information on why Bolton was recommended, but I won't go into them on the floor of the Senate. If you want to came talk to me privately later, I'll be glad to discuss them.

What's the real connection between ShrubCo and Bolton?

1. He helped with selection 2000...

Bolton was in South Korea on an AEI assignment when he received a call from long-time mentor James Baker, who was leading the charge on the Florida recount in 2000. Baker told him to get on the next plane, which he did. After working as a lawyer with the Republican team in Florida, he grabbed reporters' attention when he burst into a Tallahassee library announcing ''I'm with the Bush-Cheney team, and I'm here to stop the count."

15. Well, not that the BFEE doesn't discard people when they're through with
them. But this guy still has some miles left in him. And by now he knows where a few bodies are buried himself. All for one and one for all. The Bushies prize loyalty above all else.

2. good grief
Why does Bush push so hard for any of these rightwing extremists?

He's a crazed corporate sockpuppet and theocratic ideologue who represents his equally idiotic base.

3. He's also "pushing hard"
because of his inability to back down from any decision or admit he's ever made any mistakes.

4. IMHO, they need to invade iran quickly, and Bolton will deliver
the accelerated sanction demands in the UN to make that a faster "diplomatic" failure to justify preemptive attack.

as I said, IMHO.

Otherwise, I see no need for such urgency.

8. Yes -
he'll make sure the intelligence fits the plan and push hard in the UN...PNAC wants an invasion of Iran by June. They'd better hurry to keep their timeline.

5. "Im with the Bush-Cheney team, and I'm here to stop the count."
Edited on Wed May-25-05 03:40 PM by Bridget Burke
Those were the words John Bolton yelled as he burst into a Tallahassee library on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, where local election workers were recounting ballots cast in Florida's disputed presidential race between George W. Bush and Al Gore.

Bolton was one of the pack of lawyers for the Republican presidential ticket who repeatedly sought to shut down recounts of the ballots from Florida counties before those counts revealed that Gore had actually won the state's electoral votes and the presidency.

The December 9 intervention was Bolton's last and most significant blow against the democratic process.

I just posted a Commondreams link to this in another thread. Here's the original source:

Edited to add: Plus, Bolton will help "make the case" for Shrub's military adventures with the UN--& try to destroy it.

They will be much uglier than the oil wars, even.

7. It's about Iran
It's very important to little idiot in chief to be able to beat the war drums right before the 2006 elections. Just as before, with Iraq, the media will roll over and discuss NOTHING ELSE. Therefore, his record will not be an issue. In addition, more profits for corporations. It's a win-win, and Bolton can make it happen.

10. Why does he have to be secretive about the information?
If he has verifiable information that condemns Bolton, he should make it known in the House and put on the record. ShrubCo isn't above anything that opens discourse on their dealings. I am getting sick of this deference to a crime family that should be on trial instead of ruling our country.

11. he's the chosen hit man, already in Shrub's deep confidence
I PROMISE he is up to destroy and hamper the UN in its dealings with the Bush administration.

Maybe the idea is that he can protect ShrubCO from war criminal charges.

17. It just strikes me very strange that Shrub would chance someone
making HIM look bad, not only to the American people, but to the World.

I get the connection with the judges and wanting to push the agenda of the RW, but Bolton doesn't seem to have ANY qualifications, and sure doesn't sound like a RW Christian!!!

I guess time will tell, but it seems very weird.

12. They See Compromise As Defeat
It's win only. Amelioration is a sign of weakness. Withdrawing him would admit defeat, and they see no value in statesmanship. It's either total victory or total defeat.

14. What better way

to get the US out of the UN (which is the long held desire of
the ultra right).

Bolton goes to UN, UN starts ignoring a complete asshat, US threatens
to withhold funds if UN doesn't "reform" the way Bolton wants...
UN says "stuff it"... US withdraws from the UN.
