5. yeah, this really doesn't help matters
I totally agree that the press should have put this into perspective as old news (the article) and asked Scottie why Newsweek as bad, but the administration is not held to that same standard for doing much much worse... but this cover just keeps the false claims of the media alive.

9. I can't squint that much, sorry
And I can't for sure read the subtitle under the title, but I think it's about how Bush brought "freedom" in America to a screeching halt.

But hey, the gist is kind of enough to get the point here...

8. maybe someone will check
those stupid sites and it will prove the point that those wingnuts are crazy and malicious, smallminded, parrots. Even, Paul Harvey, sounded like KKKarl Rove wrote his 'news' this morning. "civilians are now the new enemy"...gawd

11. CNN was reporting last week that
Eco-Terrorists are the biggest terrorist threat the US faces.

I say if they are our biggest threat we should dismantle the military.

10. What are you implying?
Edited on Wed May-25-05 12:06 PM by bloom
That Newsweek should be rah rah America everywhere at all times?

Did you know that the Time Canada Person of the Year was the Canadian that the US sent to Syria for torture - quite a contrast to the Time US Person of the Year - Bush.

12. what part of a free and independent media isn't understood?
the media is not intended, nor should it be, a mere mouth-piece for the administration. that's what they have press secretaries for. so when any single part of the MSN attempts to put forth an opinion contrary to the line fed to it by the administration there is something wrong? might as well just wipe the floor with the Constitution then, because its serving no other purpose if that's how freepers think things in this country should be....

13. The press sec is now seen as a coordinator of the media
as part of the global war against terror.

The sooner everyone catches up to this reality, the more realistic we'll all be about it.

15. to quote a wise sage of our times . . .
"I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So who cares if they're socialists? They could be fascist anarchists. It still doesn't change the fact that I don't own a car."

(sorry, didn't mean to go off topic - just feelin' a bit punchy today . . :hi:)

17. I answered this on another thread about the Newsweek cover, but
the headline indeed says "The Day America Died," and the smaller headline says, "The ideal of 'freedom' which fell to earth (i.e. crashed) with Bush's re-election."

The rest of the headlines are just too small to read.

(Thanks for the alert, katinmn! :hi: )
