Man Shot With Taser by Tustin Police Dies
Officers say they thought he was a burglar and that he struggled during his arrest.

A man shot by Tustin police with a Taser in an apartment that they believed he was burglarizing died Monday, authorities said.

Richard Alvarado, 38, of Orange, was pronounced dead at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana about 10:40 a.m.

"We really don't know what happened with him," Lewis said.

The altercation took place about 7 p.m. Sunday, he said, after police were summoned to an apartment in the 17400 block of Mitchell Street to investigate reports that a burglar had broken in...

2. The problem he died after being shot by a so-called...
"Less than lethal" weapon its not the first time it's happened, it needs to stop and this taser company should be put out of business in my opinion

3. Do you have a problem with the police using guns?
By the way, the picture of that guy is freaking me out, you have the advantage on me. :)

The dead guy was committing a violent crime, the cops showed up and tried to get him to surrender. He decides that he doesn't want to surrender so the cops aim a Tazer at him.

He dies after he gets Tazer'ed but according to your article we still don't know why he died. The autopsy will show us that, but even if it was the Tazer, so what?

Maybe the cops should have given him a good long hug?

Again, what is the problem here?

I posted this in a different thread on the same topic: In my personal opinion, it's not progressively liberal to support and coddle the criminal, you should be supporting the victim.

4. Which part of "Less Than Lethal" Don't you get?
Edited on Tue May-24-05 10:02 PM by ConfuZed
Its not about "coddling" the criminal and its not about kissing the cops ass stop trying to change subjects by bringing up the victim its about a device that is being touted as a none lethal weapon yet week after week we keep reading about 'taser' guns killing people IT HAS TO END!

6. So if a criminal doesn't surrender it's OK if he dies?
And you shrug it off? Remind me never to be under your care, nursey! ;)

8. My excellent nursing skills have no relationship
to this criminal who chose poorly. You are insulting. You make a direct attack on me, as a nurse....an irrelevant issue, for having an opinion which is supporting of the law and the protection of innocent citizens.

What are you hiding from?

Did you see the wink?

Criminals who choose poorly don't necessarily deserve death. Was he armed? Was backup called to try to avert this? Was any other less-than-lethal force used first? Do you know?

I support the law as well and their job is a dangerous one. But they are not always perfect.

>What are you hiding from?<

You from now on, evidently. Sorry you were insulted.

PS please see this thread to see how insulting I am towards nurses who also have a thankless job.

11. No, I did not see the wink.....
I agree, they are not always perfect but their job is HELL. I take my cap off to all officers as the ones I do know, have a heart of gold and are amazingly contained with their frustration when criminals test the boundaries of civility.

I've taken lots of heat in Taser threads lately.... :banghead:

13. Fair deal
and I hope no hard feelings. I don't think the problem is with the police, I think it is with the weapon. I absolutely think that the officers using them think they are safer than they are proving to be.

15. I see them used ....and this "place" which will remain
nameless.....utilizes medical staff when the intervention is to be concidered. When the Taser is used.....it really has been a life saver.

26. I give up trying to convice you...
because in my opinion you are just another heartless jerk its suprising that I ran into someone like you on this side of the fence and it scares me that you are a nurse but I'm not going to give up on standing on my principles, the taser gun should not be advertised or sold as a non lethal weapon because it isnt.

14. That said....I see daily that hundreds of people
are saved from injury and death from the use of a Taser to defuse a potentially explosive situation. We don't hear about those in the news.....

24. must have been near the the Key Inn
Tustin has its bad parts. South of San Juan Street, West of the 5, The Key Inn Parking lot. Also stay away from the Jolly Jug parking lot, the Swingin Door or the Tustin Inn. There isn't much left, is there?
