Russert: Tom DeLay's pitbull?
Questions Russert asked Howard Dean about Tom DeLay:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7924139/

MR. RUSSERT: Tom DeLay--you raised him; he was at a dinner on May 12 being honored by Republicans and conservatives. He had this to say about you, Howard Dean. Let's watch.

(Videotape, May 12):

REP. TOM DELAY, (R-TX): Democrats around the country are growing more and more alienated every day because they see that the once-great party of Roosevelt and Kennedy has become the party of Howard Dean.

...

MR. RUSSERT: But, Governor, you did on May 14 say something about Tom DeLay that raised a lot of eyebrows. Let's watch Howard Dean on Tom DeLay.

(Videotape, May 14):

DR. DEAN: I think Tom DeLay ought to go back to Houston, where he can serve his jail sentence down there courtesy of the Texas taxpayers.

(End videotape)

MR. RUSSERT: "Serve his jail sentence"? He--what's he been convicted of?

...

MR. RUSSERT: You said in December of 2003 that we shouldn't prejudge Osama bin Laden. How can you sit here and have a different standard for Tom DeLay and prejudge him?

...

MR. RUSSERT: But shouldn't that be for a jury to decide and not you?

...

MR. RUSSERT: Barney Frank, a liberal Democrat, said, "That's just wrong. I think Howard Dean was out of line talking about DeLay. The man has not been indicted. I don't like him, I disagree with some of what he does, but I don't think you, in a political speech, talk about a man as a criminal or his jail sentence."

...

MR. RUSSERT: But in order to have a civilized debate about these kinds of issues, a robust debate, can we be doing this to each other in the political process? Here's the Democratic National Committee Web site this morning. It is, in effect, a mug shot of Tom DeLay. You can see his height in the back with inches there, a serial number, 18821. Is that appropriate, a mug shot?

...

MR. RUSSERT: So you will not retract or apologize your comments about Tom DeLay?

...

MR. RUSSERT: This is what you told The Philadelphia Inquirer. " said Democrats need `message discipline.' He said they should for the present forego the satisfaction of attacking House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's ethics problems ... and focus on attacking Bush's plan to create private Social Security accounts."

You're not taking your own advice.

...

1. Arianna Huffington blogs on that on the Huffington Post

Tim Russert Ties Me Up in Knots
There I was, as is my Sunday morning tradition, watching Meet the Press while doing yoga. (Or is it doing yoga while watching Meet the Press? Whatever.) Tim Russert was interviewing Howard Dean. At least, I’m pretty sure it was Russert. For one thing, I was in the Uttanasana II position, so I couldn’t see very well. For another, what I was hearing sounded remarkably like some White House flack:

“Wasn’t it the intelligence community that misled the president?”

“When did the president ever suggest that Saddam Hussein was responsible for September 11?”

“Well, you said there were weapons of mass destruction.”

But the key exchange came when Dean raised the most critical point about Iraq:

DEAN: Because of the president’s actions, I would argue that we are in greater danger now because of what’s going on in Iraq than we were before. Now there are terrorists in Iraq. They have migrated there since our troops were there.

RUSSERT: Let me stay on your rhetoric…

Nice pivot, Tim. Yes, by all means, let’s stay on Dean’s rhetoric rather than on the insignificant fact that our country is less safe as a result of our invasion of Iraq. Good to see you’ve got your priorities in order.

Okay, back to Downward Facing Dog…"

8. Remember this from Timmy? Proclaiming the Clinton Presidency over
when the Monica story hit? I don't remember any apology from his early and wrong assessment.

9. I remember Timmy demanding an apology from Hillary Clinton in Buffalo.
He still has gunpowder on his face from the backfire.

5. Let's see how well Mehlman stands up under Russert's withering attack.
:sarcasm:

MR. RUSSERT: And we believe in equal time here on MEET THE PRESS. In two weeks, on June 5th, we'll have an exclusive interview with the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Ken Mehlman.

6. The only necessary apology should be from Timmy as to his
hijacking a once very good news show when people actually had to answer to a press panel. Not the show now run by an egomaniac.

7. The press is fighting with each other
To be the repugs lapdog du jour. They sense that they should align themselves with the repugs in order to maintain their extravagant salaries, vacation homes in martha's vineyard and other trappings.

They are like the fish that follow sharks. In this case, hoping that dollars will continue to trickle down to them, all the while selling their BS.

TV news is dead, talking heads are puppets, its all a charade.

11. I HATE Tim Russert and I'm sick of hearing about his garbage man dad!
I'm so sure - you would think he's the only person with a father. A book about his dad and how great he is and he won't stop talking about it? Me thinks the man doth protest too much. I have nothing against garbage men - nothing at all - but I think ole Tim has a super-sized chip on his shoulder about not coming from money and he is doing everything he can to paint his upbringing as spectacular. Dean - compared to Russert - was a blue blood. Maybe that gets a little under his skin??? The Bush clan puts on this front of being southern rednecks - so they don't offend blue-collar people. Bush doesn't have to fake being stupid though.

As for prejudging DeLay? Excuse me... What was Clinton convicted of when the Republicans started going after him? What about all the insanely horrible things the Republicans say about the Democrats. There is SUCH a double standard in this country right now. I'm sick to death of it!!!

13. It's a damn shame Russert did not ask these kind of questions
about the War in Iraq, about the missing 8.8 million dollars, about Tom DeLay's illegal activities. Just another suck ass reporter...
