Huffington Rips on Russerts interview with Dean
05.22.2005 Arianna Huffington

Tim Russert Ties Me Up in Knots
There I was, as is my Sunday morning tradition, watching Meet the Press while doing yoga. (Or is it doing yoga while watching Meet the Press? Whatever.) Tim Russert was interviewing Howard Dean. At least, I’m pretty sure it was Russert. For one thing, I was in the Uttanasana II position, so I couldn’t see very well. For another, what I was hearing sounded remarkably like some White House flack:

“Wasn’t it the intelligence community that misled the president?”

“When did the president ever suggest that Saddam Hussein was responsible for September 11?”

“Well, you said there were weapons of mass destruction.”

But the key exchange came when Dean raised the most critical point about Iraq:

DEAN: Because of the president’s actions, I would argue that we are in greater danger now because of what’s going on in Iraq than we were before. Now there are terrorists in Iraq. They have migrated there since our troops were there.

RUSSERT: Let me stay on your rhetoric…

2. He is so bloated with hubris, it isn't funny
...and he ain't that good. He comes off as a bully when talking to dems, and a sycophant when kissing GOP ass.

7. Let me tell ya something about Timmmmmmmaaaaay
The night of the white board, during Florida, Gore, 00, with his charming little red erasing pen....he had a BUSH button on the reverse side of his lapel. Flashed it to a close friend, with a wink and a nod.

The guy is a fucking pig.

28. I well remember that lapel button story,
and think of it whenever Mr. Potato Head's name comes up.

16. You should see him in person talk about his life, his job, events
"hubris" is the perfect word for him

I've been to a few Kennedy Library forums that featured members of the "press/media".... I can totally understand why most politicians can't stand the media.... smarmy, smug, disdainful, snobbish, shallow

And we (most of America) rely on these people to get out information. No wonder most people are misinformed

...gave Dean the opportunity to shine. I haven't sat down and really listened to him talk since well before the election, and I have to say he is coming into his own as a well-spoken leader.

24. That's a perfect description: "little frustrated schoolboy attempt"...
...There was no coherence to the "interview" at all. He just gathered a bunch of Dean quotes and set off on a "How can I use these to make him look bad" goose chanse.

6. Russert's "dialogue" was filled with objections
It sounded to me like every other thing Dean said, Russert came back with a "but ..." question. Dean was really great, though, just listening to him made me feel hope, slight hope.

15. don't you just love those "yes, but..."retorts that russert and judy woof
love to use to block the truth from coming out...

YEAH TIMMY, BUT PLEASE PRAY TELL ... do you ever listen to yourself ... and if you do, can you live with yourself, inside of yourself, or in other words, between you and you, how can you live with yourself knowing that you blocked truth from coming out because your pocket got lined with money on the block on truth that you threw?

dear timmy, according to the idealized version of BIG RUSS that you present on the tee-vee ... you ain't doing big russ no honors, you know when you go about blocking truth and promoting naziism and corporatism!

8. What I found galling from that interview...
...was Russert's assertion (inference) that Dean should be sympathetic and deferential to Rush Limbaugh's addiction problem. What utter bullshit. Limbaugh is not the slightest bit contrite; anything and everything about him is fair game.

10. Dean ended THAT exchange rather abruptly!
"Rush Limbaugh has made a career out of belittling people."

I loved the "we're not going to take it" attitude! Someone who is as sick of their hypocritical bullshit as I am!

Peace.

13. Tim is hanging out of junior's back pocket these days,
either for his life or money because it can't be for common sense or for the common good, eh?

Shame on Dean for not blistering Tim like Galloway did Norm Coleman & the U.S. with the truth.

17. Doesn't Russert deserve a nick name by now?
I mean if Chris Matthews is Tweety, can't we come up with an appropriate name for Tim?

If he's always going on about Big Russ, maybe we should call him Tiny Tim or Little Rusty. But those are too long, perhaps. Something unrelated to his name and as catchy as Tweety.

Any ideas???

26. I really like the Spud thing ...
He does look like Mr. Potatohead, and his last name Russert is soooo close to Russet. "Spud" is so short and catchy ...

As in, "Spud made an ass of himself once again on MTP ..."
