Palestinians to Laura Bush : "HOW DARE YOU COME IN HERE!"
Laura Bush has visited Israel and the West Bank, her latest stops on a Mideast tour aimed at promoting American goodwill.

Laura Bush got a hot welcome

from Palestinian Muslims when she visited the golden Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem's Old City, the third-holiest place in Islam.

"How dare you come in here!" shouted Palestinian hecklers. "Why are you hassling Muslims? You do not belong here!" they said. Israeli police formed a human chain to keep the protesters away.

Ironically, the first lady went to the mosque to show that America is a tolerant country. But anti-American sentiment has been running high in the Middle East since Newsweek magazine reported that U.S. soldiers had desecrated the Koran at a detention facility. Newsweek later retracted the report.

14. I don't think it was her
Last I heard she was staying home because her son was getting prepared for college and needed his mommy. Obviously he wasn't "coping with the real world" or some shit like that. This is probably Karl Rove or some other advisor.

Bush to bring Karen Hughes back to administration
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush will nominate one of his closest longtime advisers to a key State Department post in an effort to help repair the United States' image abroad, especially in the Arab world, a senior administration official said Saturday.

<snip>

The official said that Hughes, 48, will spearhead the administration's campaign to promote democracy in the Middle East.

<snip>

She has little experience in foreign affairs but enjoys the confidence of the president and is close to the new secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice.

5. Oh it's Newsweek's fault?
I guess they had to get that in, as if she would have been warmly welcomed a couple of months ago. It doesn't have anything to do with Newsweek. They hated us long before that. Anyone remember the torture?

From the White Houses' lips to the pages of the VOA News. They don't even bother to do a re-write any more, they just post it verbatim from the White House press release. :puke: Sickening! Newsweek's report had nothing to do with her icy reception.

misguided PR fiasco is going to get his or her ass fired. Thanks to the US media many Americans are still clueless about how much the BFEE is hated out in the real world. You'd think insiders would know better. They've been tuning into FAUX news for so long they've actually started to believe their own propaganda.

A lot of Americans still like her even if they're not fond of W. Watch her lay low for a while until this mess blows over so they can at least say she has high numbers.

21. I think a lot of them do know
I've talked to some people on other boards and they do know. They just don't give a damn. Just like their "fearless leader" they play this whole thing like they don't care what other countries say even if they are part of the international world. Like John Kerry said last year "we're part of a world, not just a country."

Pictures from Israel, the West Bank, Syria ... all showed Kerry smiling and waving to people who responded in kind. The world would have been so much better off if Kerry were using all his wisdom and diplomatic skill to heal the problems.

12. Tolerant country my ass
Don't believe her Israeli's. They are NOT tolerant of anybody unless they're on their side. Look at how they treat Muslims and gay people and their "religious leaders" treat others unless you're lock and center with them. I've been called horrible things all the way from being anti-American to a godless heathen because I'm democratic even though I'm Christian too. Remember when Rush Limbaugh said we have a different god then them?! AH! I wanted so bad to yell at him.

Apparently she's the new Big Dog,I wonder if she will get caught lying about an intern and dragged through the mud?

Is it just me or is it a coincidence that Sharon is here? Are there really ever any true coincidences?

Peace to you.

Or sadly, maybe her outfit is a replica of one child, or wife , or mother who was attending the funeral of her dead son or daughter who was kia in Iraq.

26. More government disinformation.
"Ironically, the first lady went to the mosque to show that America is a tolerant country. But anti-American sentiment has been running high in the Middle East since Newsweek magazine reported that U.S. soldiers had desecrated the Koran at a detention facility."

Anti-American sentiment has been high in the Middle East for years, yet every time you turn on the TV or open a paper nowadays you see similar statements.

If it weren't for Newsweek by golly, they'd love us over there being the inference. We all know what bullshit that is, but by the time it's finished shrub's failure in Iraq will be Newsweek's fault.

Here's just one example from many which predates the invasion of Iraq...yeah, they hated shrub then, too.

From Pew report What the World Thinks in 2002
Despite an initial outpouring of public sympathy for America following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, discontent with the United States has grown around the world over the past two years. Images of the U.S. have been tarnished in all types of nations: among longtime NATO allies, in developing countries, in Eastern Europe and, most dramatically, in Muslim societies.

Since 2000, favorability ratings for the U.S. have fallen in 19 of the 27 countries where trend benchmarks are available. While criticism of America is on the rise, however, a reserve of goodwill toward the United States still remains. The Pew Global Attitudes survey finds that the U.S. and its citizens continue to be rated positively by majorities in 35 of the 42 countries in which the question was asked. True dislike, if not hatred, of America is concentrated in the Muslim nations of the Middle East and in Central Asia, today’s areas of greatest conflict.
