The Bad Doctor Dems. Enemy No 1
I don't see much clamor over the good doctors past indiscretions.
Here is some information from 2 years ago on his criminal wrongdoings.
http://www.laweekly.com/ink/03/08/news-ireland.php

Clip..
What did HCA do? It inflated its expenses and billed the government for the overrun; it billed the government for services ineligible for reimbursement (like advertising and marketing costs). HCA violated both law and medical ethics when, as Forbes put it, "the company increased Medicare billings by exaggerating the seriousness of the illnesses they were treating. It also granted doctors partnerships in company hospitals as a kickback for the doctors’ referring patients to HCA. In addition, it gave doctors ‘loans’ that were never expected to be paid back, free rent, free office furniture — and free drugs from hospital pharmacies."

This is the ethical climate that reigned in the Frist family’s money machine. In an unguarded moment, Senator Frist told the Boston Globe that conversations with his doctor father about the family calling were like "benign versions of the Godfather and Michael Corleone." Apparently the senator considers defrauding the government "benign." So too does the Bush White House, which dictated the Justice Department deal with HCA that let the crooks escape jail just as Frist was being anointed the Senate’s majority leader. A pure coincidence in timing, of course.

The senator has always claimed no current connection to HCA because the $26 million he and his wife hold in the company’s stock is in a so-called "blind trust." But it was the family’s dirty money that bought Frist a place in the Senate. In 1994, Frist — who’d never bothered to vote before first running for the Senate that year — spent some $3.4 million of his personal fortune to buy the seat from Tennessee (HCA’s headquarters) that he now occupies. Moreover, "In the Senate, Frist has used his influence to further HCA’s cause by stopping a strong patients’ bill of rights, gridlocking a mandatory Medicare prescription-drug benefit, and promoting caps on damages for victims who sue negligent hospitals like HCA’s," points out Jamie Court, executive director of the Santa Monica–based Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, who adds, "The Senate should not replace a racist with a principal backer of one of the largest corporate swindles ever perpetrated against the American public. If Frist was a patriot first, he would have sold his HCA stock long ago."

With him in position to destroy the democrats next week, I think it is good to ask a few questions about him.

8. You're welcome. I'm looking forward to the attack,
should this thing get the nod. He's a very easy target with plenty of character flaws and funny facial structure.

4. No lie
I'm digging for more:

Kentucky Fried Healthcare

While the federal investigation proceeded, Columbia/HCA’s board took its own action. Controversial CEO Richard Scott was ousted, and co-founder Thomas Frist Jr. was brought out of retirement to preside over a reorganization that included the divestiture of a substantial portion of the company’s hospitals. In 2000 the company agreed to pay $745 million to resolve Medicare civil fraud allegations, and later consented to several criminal counts and a fine of $95 million against two of its subsidiaries. That same year, Quorum agreed to pay $95.5 million to settle its charges and was then acquired by Triad Hospitals Inc

6. More on Australia looking at Columbia/HCA
http://www.uow.edu.au/arts/sts/bmartin/dissent/documents/health/columb_business.html

The FBI raids Columbia/HCA on 19/3/97:- 111, 112, 113 Representative Pete Stark has expressed the hope that Columbia/HCA executives "will all be in jail soon." 56 He has repeatedly urged that the company's practices be investigated. The Internal Revenue Service has been interested in its practices.27 There have been concerns that its business practices are not competitive, that its deals with doctors may breach anti-kickback laws and that it has used its influence on doctors to "cream skim" profitable patients. 5, 114

Clip..
Of particular concern has been the aggression displayed and the tactics employed by Columbia/HCA in its competitive PACMAN approach to the purchase of not for profit hospitals and the conversion of community assets into corporate assets and corporate profits. 5, 114 Federal and state legislators are bringing in a rash of so called "PACMAN" laws to control the practices.75 Representative Stark said "the for-profit chains have the minds of piranha fish and the hearts of Doberman pinschers." He indicated that Columbia/HCA was "the PACMAN of the industry."114

5. Hard to believe this guy holds himself out as a "Christian".
He has some mighty major character flaws to feign righteousness. Of course, all the ones that hold God or religion on their sleeves are apparently of the same evil, self-serving cloth!!!

Yuck!!! :puke:

15. I have to kick this once more
Here is my letter to Senator Coleman:

I know you generally support all of President Bush's policies, but I am asking for you to look out for our country and the good citizens of the State of Minnesota this time. When Senator Frist attempts to change the Senate rules via the Nuclear Option, please vote against him. Frist is not going to come out of this good and hopefully you will side with the Americans.
Sincerely,
Demon Fighter

17. This post helps get it done. It helps with the big picture fight --
-- Democrats have to wage to defeat Frist, DeLay, and the rest of the shithouse rats running the government at present.

I like it because I agree with it, but I also respect it because it has the sensibility I would trust in a public servant. I want people who think like this to be running things and not George Allen and Jesse Helms and other far-right nutcases.

'am casting a strong vote for this post for the Greatest page.

18. Thank you so much Old Crusoe
You put my first thread on the front page. I feel like I graduated.

I wanted to come here an bask in the Frist defeat. Norah O'Donnell reporting on MSN that this was a big blow to Frist.

John McCain is so far ahead of Frist in their little O8 plans. I like McCain, but I didn't like to see him get the Vulcan Neck Pinch from dubby.
:silly:
I guess our hero has to be Byrd or the young guy from Arkansas. Honestly, I don't know exactly how much we have gained yet, but the destruction of Frist is a start.

19. DemonFighterLives, I'm late to this post tonight but have been --
-- wrangling with folks over what was lost or gained.

I'm inclined to say we did better than we might have, although in a more perfect world, there would be a giant and very deep gully into which all conservative Republican senators would be summarily tossed as we progressives stood on the cliffs above laughing like hyenas.

But I digress.

You're right on Frist & McCain, I think. Frist dropped the ball on the third yard line and "moderates" picked it up and ran the length of the field the other way. Karl Rove must be a bit surprised that McCain et al had this in them. I'm kind of impressed myself, although liking McCain more than Frist won't win my vote. I'd like to see these two guys beat the holy crap out of each other for the next 3 years or so, with McCain prevailing for the nomination -- a bruised nominee who is the scourge of the fundies -- and then the fundies having to run Sam Brownshirt of Kansas as a third-party campaign.

In that scenario, the GOP vote splits and the Democrats own the White House.

Edited on Tue May-24-05 12:10 AM by DemonFighterLives
I wrote to John and he appeared to come through.(not on my account I'm sure).
I was gone tonight, but on Olberman's repeat, there was Frist looking all alone on the Senate floor. He stated that he was not a part of this compromise and Keith had to repeat it at the end. At the same time McCain is going around thanking Frist and Reid as being the be all to end all to the "Deal". I think it is time for the  .

22. You are too kind
I'm trying to get my head around the "deal" yet. The fact that McCain and the others are being villified is a good sign for me.
Mary Landreau (sp) looked good on the team and Lindsey Graham (R) talking about it, was basically saying that they were going to make sure that W sends good picks over.
Making dubby think will surely get heads exploding. He is used to just sending the worst possible choice over and thinking his mandate would do the trick.
The mandate which was really a figment of his imagination is now gone. The rubber stamp is apparently gone. Frist will have to go back to bilking the taxpayers.
