Name one thing you bought that you appreciated more than DU
Edited on Fri May-20-05 03:06 PM by sfexpat2000
I just tried. And couldn't think of a single thing.

Not anchovies. Not the New Yorker subscription. Not the upgraded DirecTV account. I could post about something I like/love/need about DU once an hour and probably just go on for days.

Stumped.

I, otoh, bought some goat cheese. I know...sounds odd, but I really like goat cheese. And I figure that when I'm raising goats in Europe as an xpat someday I'll look back and remember both my original love of DU and Goat Cheese fondly.

Goat cheese?

Anything with "goat" in it sounds like something the fundies will be rounding up.

Go, GOATS!

if you live in a Fundie neighborhood. Not unless you want a lot of little fauns running around.

129. I imagine they ARE nicer.
For one thing, very few of them have sexual hangups, and for another, almost none of them belong to fundamentalist churches, if only because the other parishioners inexplicably tend to discriminate against them because of the horns and hooves.

118. I've got a couple of thousand books up on the walls at home...
that was a good idea. My idea of paring is to lose the magazines I had in plastic storage binders. It now gives me more room. Of course most of my stuff is history related. I have about another 1500 books at my work office in storage. Those a part of my reference lenders for reseachers (movie/film) & writers.

120. Most of my stuff is poetry and literary history. I have terrible
moments of needing to quote something and not being able to lay hands on the text -- we live in a San Francisco closet and I've pared 'way back.

Something overloaded my memory just before my oral exam. Before then, I could rattle stuff off with impunity. Ah, youth.

Oh, but that was years ago, during the days of my misspent yuth (and thank god, the statutes of limitations have long since run.)

You are right, I have been pondering this subject and I can't think of what I have purchased that has brought me such pleasure and that has presented such a challenge.

I have met some incredible folks here, I have learned more than I ever thought I could know and I continue to learn every single day.

I have been frustrated and elated, satisfied and filled with laughter, saddened and encouraged, and that is just from one thread.

:freak: Nope, can't think of a thing that has brought me such pleasure and such great company (at least for such an extended period of time ;-) .) :hi:

:)

I never could afford to buy patterns so I'd just use pictures and try to figure it out on my own. Best success was a group of nativity figures that I did on the train to and from work when my boys were little. It was a kid-proof creche! And it was fun trying to improvise the animals. I figured out the shapes and stuffed them with the same color. Take that, Women's Day! I must have saved all of $25 that we didn't have

Really big mommy crows are sometimes ravens.

Did it go "caw! caw!" or did it sound like a demon from the underworld? (If it said "Nevermore!" then it was for sure a raven.)

I love corvids (crows, ravens, and jays).

This morning I was laying in bed and in the eaves of the house, right out the window about 5 feet above my head, there were two stellar's jays making funny noises. I really don't know what they were doing, if it was a mom and kid or if they were making baby stallar's jays or what. Always something different.

Edited on Fri May-20-05 06:32 PM by GardeningGal
standing on the roof of my house, scoping out the Koi in the pond. It's actually a silhouette of the heron because it was getting close to dusk. They are magnificent looking birds, but would prefer it to not stalk my koi!

We actually sold our car recently. Every now and then, there's cab fare but mostly we're saving over $1500 a month.

I haven't been there in quite awhile, but I am due the adventure. :freak:

Some day soon, I hope. :bounce:

And don't laugh about drunken tourist, hell, I was biten by a NOPD horse one night in the quarter when I was there for the Jazz Fest. x( (Mispent yuth)

I was just petting the horse and he bit me and the damned cop wanted to arrest me. :eyes: Didn't realize how bad it was due to the quantity of alcohol I had consumed, then I looked down and my shirt had blood on it, I looked at my arm and there was this big nasty bit and bruise.

Try to find peroxide in the Quarter, that's a true experience. :silly:

Well, those poor horses go through HELL during Mardi Gras, so I understand it's reaction... not that YOU deserved it at all... Peroxide/band-aids can be found at the A&P on Royal St.

Btw, the "show your tits," and "Girls Gone Wild" crap has NOTHING to do with our local culture and Mardi Gras. That was brought to us by out-of-state smut peddlers and the sexually deprived. x(

104. Good to know about the A&P on Royal.
The local culture is what I love the most about the city. I love to walk the city, all along the river, to the flea market, to the square. I get a kick out of folks that have to eat at the Hard Rock, I mean, its okay, but I like the local flavor and the NO eateries, not the chain stuff.

I will be sure to PM you before I head that way so that you can give me some tips! Thanks so much. :toast:
