convinced of their own personal righteousness are the most dangerous of all peoples.They are capable of occupying other people's lands invoking religious texts thousands of years old,launching wars against people who did them no harm and capable of enslaving and torturing other people for no reason other than the way they look or their wealth or their sexual proclivities or their political beliefs.

2. Those people exist on all points of the political spectrum...

The danger of those driven by their convictions is that it allows them to externalize the notion of "evil", as something that exists only outside of themselves. This line of thought taken a step further justifies the use of whatever means necessary in an effort to eradicate this "outside evil". A prime example would be the book by Richard Perle and David Frum, "An End to Evil".

But, as Gandhi warned us, "The true battle between good and evil dwells in men's hearts. That is where all future wars should be fought."

Presenting this argument as if we are somehow immune to such a fate is dangerous, IMHO. I've seen plenty of examples of people exhibiting such conviction and it accompanying demonization on these boards. I've caught myself engaging in it as well. But pretending that only the other side does it is a path to terrible results, IMHO.

3. What's funny is how many injunctions the Bible has against

the prideful or self righteous. Sometimes I think the radical religious right has an eye defect that prevents them from seeing the word Pharisee.
