Oopsy daisy, Scotty! Newsweek retraction made things worse!
CAIRO, Egypt - The now-retracted report that American interrogators flushed a Quran down a toilet did not spark violent protests in the Middle East as it did in Afghanistan and Pakistan — but it added another layer of bitterness among many Arabs who see the United States as anti-Muslim.

Across the Islamic world, many were unconvinced by Newsweek's retraction of the report. From Afghanistan to Egypt, some people believed the U.S. had pressured Newsweek to deny the story, using the magazine as a "scapegoat."

In many countries, politicians — skeptical of Newsweek's about-face — said the United States should make public the details of its investigation into the reported desecration.

"Although the magazine that published this piece of information has backed off it, we call on the American administration to investigate the incident, which we consider a major crime against more than 1.2 billion Muslims in the world," Jassem al-Kharafi, the parliament speaker in Kuwait — a top U.S. ally — said in the Al-Watan daily Wednesday.

1. Good luck on that
"Although the magazine that published this piece of information has backed off it, we call on the American administration to investigate the incident"

We have not been able to get a good investigation of anything so good luck. With these guys you can call for whatever you want and they will give you exactly what they want, something that makes them look really good.

2. It won't get any better till we retract *'s ass out of the White House.
And it's probably too late already to do any good with ME relations.

But I still say it's worth a try!!!

3. Is anyone surprised by this.
All they did was bring EXTRA attention to an article that they felt didn't need any attention. You can't ask a major magazine to pull a story without everyone reading it first, because as soon as it get's retracted, everyone wants a copy to see why it was so controversial.

4. Like we don't already know what the findings will be?
The Bush Cabal will say it never happened in any form, so I'm not sure what Jassem al-Kharafi is hoping for...

Tear that bush ass UP.

See, the rest of the world can see right through the bush junta bullshit. And so can all of us Dems.

So what the fuck is the major malfunction of the bushbots in this country? Are they....mentally deficient? They're certainly morally deficient.

9. Gee, who would have thunk that the administration making Newsweek...
retract their story would look like government control/manipulations making those affected even more pissed off?

"some people believed the U.S. had pressured Newsweek to deny the story, using the magazine as a "scapegoat.""

Sounds like those people hit the nail on the head.

10. Yeah, while Simple Scotty had himself all puffed up in outrage
over a 300 word article in Newsweek, the rest of the world has been hearing of prisoner abuse by the US in the international press for quite some time. Why there's even this 15 page article in Vanity Fair magazine detailing despicable acts of abuse that make a little Quran flushing look like child's play.
