Demand for Chris Mathews to Resign...
Not only did he NOT get the fristbuster issues right, not only did he not give each side equally difficult questions, not only did he not correct errors or tell the public the relevant information... he then went on to berate Democrats as though that was his job.

If that was not enough, he then went on to not accurately present the Newsweek issues, not adequately present the pressure from the White House, and again, not once provide the much needed FACTs to the public.

He has to go.

6. Well, why can the right make noise and we cannot?
Especially given that there are less of them and the noise they make is about their own problems. We need to learn to make noise and about serious journalistic problems. He can be a whore for Bush, on his own time, not mine.

10. I used to write complaints to Matthews
and to MSNBC. Never got a response. Stopped watching him when he spent the 200 election obsessed with the candidates' wardrobes.

Strange, in the early days of his show, on CNBC, he made some sense.

7. Exactly
He gets paid to spew whatever they tell him too. Olberman comes on next and he says the opposite. You have to keep the bosses happy. (I don't like Chris Matthews anymore, though he says he's a dem I can't see it).

4. Tweety isn't presiding over a court of law
It's a bogus low budget reality tv entertainment show. He is an actor where the script is taken from current events. I'm surprised it comes out as plausible as it does.

5. I have a demand also
Edited on Wed May-18-05 07:03 PM by DemNoir
People must stop posting about an inconsequential talk show host that gets a .1 rating. Thats right, not 1 but .1. That means 100,000 people in the entire country, at best.

Nobody is watching except shut-in's, mental patients, prisoners that only have MSNBC on their TV's and DU'ers that like to waste their time.

8. The media will view it as a positive.
It will go like this.

"He's stirring up controversy. People are getting interested enough to write about him and are probably telling their friends about him. That means there's an audience out there. We can't get rid of him."

9. That blow hard is on right now & I'm fuming!
Could he be a bigger WH whore??!!!!!!

He was pushing for a up or down vote for Supreme Court judges!

He continues to push, HARD, the WH talking points on Newsweek.

But you know, I'm concerned that if I write to MSNBC to berate them about Mathews, they would just give him a bonus. I really want to do something pro-active to get rid of him and the other propaganda tools of the media, but I don't know what is going to be effective.

Ideas?

13. I agree with you. If we complain to MSNBC it will show them people
are watching! I suspect the best way to del with this is just to stop watching his show. If the other poster is right and his ratings are .1 he probably won't be around long anyway.

It's actually too bad. He can actually do a good interview, but for some reason, he keeps inserting his own (or someones) opinions into his show.

I have seen some great Hardball shows. I suspect he's trying to play the middle by leaning one way today and the other way tomorrow, and that simply doesn't work!

17. Write letters to those that advertise on his show.
Tell them you will boycott and have all you know to boycott their products till he stops shilling or is removed.

18. The only way you can make that work is to have LOTS of emails.
DU is not big enough, even if we all sent an email! I really don't even pay attention to who his advertisers are. For some reason, I seem to remember some drug ads, but I really don't pay any attention to them.

Something generates the ratings of a .1. Is this only Neilson? I still think, at least with digital TV, the cable companies have a way to tell, maybe not exactly who's watching what, but how many sets are tuned to the different chanels, based on signal draw. I realizze this is only in my heat, but it seems like something that could be done.

I say just ignore him.

19. True about the rating numbers.
I write software and had a 6 month contract for A.C. Nielson in Tampa. They did the cable ratings. You would be surprised that a whole nation is determined by around 5000 people. These people agree to have this intrusive box that each member of the house has to 'sign' in and out of everytime they leave the tv set. With numbers as small as we are talking about for cable news there is no guarantee that the sample is valid. In many cases there was a confidence factor generated for each rating number and for the smaller stations it was frequently not valid.

But I disagree on 2 points. First ignoring doesn't work. I thought if I ignored Rush he would go away. After all, who in their right mind would continue to watch that rubish. Second, small numbers of complaints do work to advertisers. I remember a big contriversy when 1 sponsor pulled their advertisement from Married with Children because 1 (let me emphasise that *1*) persone wrote in. Complaints to advertisers work, and it hits msnbc where it hurts more than complaining emails when sponsors leave.

11. I emailed him tonight!
Here is what I emailed to "Soft Ball" tonight:

Chris,

Your show tonight was a disgrace. I do not know how you can consistently let your GOP guests spew their lies unchecked. Hardball!! Yeah right How dare you dress down FORMER US Senator John Breaux, stating "I think the Democrats started this fight. I think you should worry about winning more elections." WTF! You of all people should know the history of the REPUBLICAN use of the filibuster, and other procedural tactics to kill legislation and nominees. Here's a little advice to you, worry about having a shred of journalistic integrity. If I wanted to watch a pathetic partisan hack, I'd watch Scarborough.

14. The deep pocket bosses are happy with his reporting and the B* White
House, that feels they have the right to "suggest" what news publication articles need to be covered...are also happy. The road is paved, government/corporate owned media, now the norm...any alternative views of the stories will have to come from the underground...

12. You say that like it NOT normal for Tweety, that's what he does...
It would go against his Nature to do otherwise.

Tweety being "Fair and Balance" to the Left is the exception, not the rule for him. Besides, if MSNBC fired him, Faux would hire him before he made it out of the MSNBC studio.

21. Having watched him live in Herald Square at the Repub Convention
in NYC last summer, I can tell you, that he doesn't give one crap about anything he says, either way.

I watched him a total of 11 hours, and as he went off camera, he shut down completely and did not discuss anything with anyone on set.He doesn't say one word unless it's for the camera, which i can tell you he loves above all else.

We were chanting, and drowning them out, and all they could do was shrug and smile a few times. Nothing anyone said mattered all that much to him. It's a gig. He's got his marching orders. Period.

Randi's said the same exact thing about Scarborough. I think these whores get their jobs because they can be puppeted by the uppers. Period. It's theater.

I think Keith is different, but who knows why they haven't pulled him of air, yet. Maybe they think Keith allows them to let tweety go the other way.

IMHO, Tweety doesn't give anything he says a second thought.

Then turn the shit off. Otherwise you'll just keep getting aggravated. I've been tweety free and cable news free since the election. It's wonderful. I highly recommend it.
