Guess what I'm hearing at the office today?
Are you ready for this? CHAPPAQUIDDICK!

These two were going on and on about it. I ignored it for a while (about 10 minutes), then turned around with an incredulous look on my face. One of them looked at me and said..."Something to add?"

I said, "First off it's a new century, isn't it time to let it go? This old thing has been around the bend and back again, over and over. Oh' yeah, Vince Foster was left handed and Hillary had him murdered, there were 40 cubans on the grassy knoll, the moon landing was staged, (sorry about this MIHOP folks) George Bush* engineerd 9/11, the space aliens created AIDS to see how we would live on their planet, and the bat boy is real. "

They talked about his testimony from some site with a subtitle (A profile in cowardice), where they read his testimony from the police report...that he didn't report until 9 hours later, and that Kennedy didn't drive a car before Chappaquiddick, because (get this) they have records of a chauffer being on his payroll. Yeah! Like rich guys buy $50,000 sports cars, only to never drive them, only their chauffers.:eyes:

I got some questions, any credible sources (I'll try Kangas' site) woudl be helpful...
*Has his police report been altered to fit their theories that he's a murderer?
*Was it REALLY 9 hours between the accident and Keddedy's report?
*Like Vince Foetser all of the sudden being left handed in his death, what is real about this event, and what is just made up conspiracy theory bullshit?
*What was the culmination of the investigation? Was he formally charged?
*Has this, in the intervening years just been used as a tool to smear him. His brothers were murdered. This family has enemies. Could this be a way to try and destroy Ted without a gunshot?
...and finally...
*Why is this still being talked about????

3. Because they are required to believe that liberals are evil incarnate
Since this helps them believe that - well it's a useful tool for them. Ditto for Jane Fonda and going to Vietnam.

4. Maybe they
think there's not "statue of limitations" on murder. Which many of them think it was.

Do you ever wonder why Republican scandals fade away while Democratic scandals seem to be immortal? My own theory is that it's because the Republicans go away or drop out. Who cares about the Newt Gringrich scandals anymore? No one, because Newt is not in Congress. He's a private citizen. Teddy is still around, still in the Senate. So he's still fair game. That's my theory anyway.

5. Ask them about Joe Scarborough murdering his pregnant girlfriend
while he was still married OR ask them about Henry Hyde and his "youthful indiscretion" OR ask them about Bob Barr and his affairs while married OR ask them about Dan Burton's affairs while married OR ask them about Livingston's affair while married OR ask them about the Chimp's girlfriend who had an abortion OR ask them about the chimp's ex-girlfriend who was murdered OR ask them about the chimp's 2 "out of wedlock" children who are being hidden OR, OR, OR you could tell them you would rather talk about how a male, gay, prostitute journalist got onto the WH hundreds of times and some days...he never left! Change the subject. That's what they do.

The only people who care about Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick are the rabid RW wacko nut jobs. No one else cares.

7. How about the republican president who brought us the wonderful DEPRESSION
Herbert Hoover? (If they want to bring up history.) And the democrat that got us out of it, Roosevelt?

Frankly, they don't see that the rape of our country is far worse the the BJ Clinton got and the accident Kennedy was in.

They rightwing media is doing a good job of keeping up the misdirection - ie. the sheeple actually think that the tax cuts that Busco is using to enrich is buddies, will benefit them.

10. No clue as to why this on the table in your office- but some truth in some
comments:

First - the true statement:

after the accident Ted was scared - walked(?) back to the ferry (takes a couple of hours for me) - Ferry was closed - swam across - takes perhaps 20 minutes - walked up hill to Hotel , got room , made phone calls to lawyers/friends - and fell asleep. The next morning he reported the accident. So was exactly 8 hours - I do not recall - but the delay is very true.

Has his police report been altered - I have no clue.

You ask "What was real about the event" and what is real is the conclusion of the event as in what he was charged with and what he was found guilty of. The "sides" of the one car right angle wooden bridge are simply an extra 6 inch beam as I recall - so going over the edge is easy. No matter - most folks would have been charged with and found guilty of manslaughter. Ted lost his license and had a mark on his driving record, plus put up no defense against a civil suit that cost him a few million.

And that is the scandal - rich person pulls strings, didn't report as soon as possible and didn't take alcohol test (I note Laura did not get asked to take an alcohol test when she ran the stop sign and killed her boyfriend).

And yes this has been used to smear him, but in Mass almost no one does not know what happen down to the last detail.

It has not and can not now "destroy Ted without a gunshot"

11. Three good suggestions on this thread.
Laura Bush accidentally killing her boyfriend.

The dead woman, who worked for Joe Scarborough, who was found in his office.

George W. Bush's drinking and driving convictions.

12. Because a young girl...
...died under"mysterious" circumstances. I love the Kennedys for their service to our country, but as long as you are ready to sweep democratic fiascos under the rug you have no right to complain about repubs doing the same. Is it lame-yeah,to a degree-but ask Mary Jo's family if they are ready to "move on". In reality, I don't feel Ted Kennedy was ever forced to face up to his role in that night's events. At very least he was driving under the influence and it is easily posited that he was up to extramarital highjinks. We all march around here chanting "When Clinton lied-No one died" but in this case SOMEONE did....let's not be revisionist about our OWN history...(flamesuit on)

19. "Mysterious circumstances"
You think maybe Kennedy intentionally ran off the bridge to cover up his extramarital hijinks? SOMEONE did die..........ONE. I felt Kennedy skated on this but it happened in 1969, his constituents have voted to keep him in office for 36 years since, so I guess I can get over it.

20. No I think Kennedy....
Edited on Tue May-17-05 10:37 AM by catnhatnh
...drove off the bridge drunk, enroute to knock a piece off on the side in violation of his marital vows, then panicked and left a young girl (probably already dead) in the water for nine hours while pondering how to save his political career. And yes,he did skate on this and yes, the voters chose to return him to office.
edit:spelling,as always...sigh

15. A clarification here.
I don't believe these guys are right wingers. They both admitted that they hate Bush as well. I think they just love to talk conspiracies (sort of the Mom's basement, still living there crowd). I really don't think bringing up Laura's boyfriend or Scarborough would faze them...They'd probablysay; "I believe that too!"

23. Some people love conspiracy theories!
I like talking about them, at times, though I don't spend much time focusing on them.

If you bring up the other theories about Laura Bush, Scarborough, etc., maybe their attention will be diverted!

(I also agree that Teddy was probably drunk off his butt when he drove into the water. I don't think there was any malicious intent, but the Drunk Driving laws were VERY different then, as were leaving the scene of an accident laws. The outcome, even for the rich Kennedy family, would be very different today than it would have been in the 60s.)

25. Hi, this is Rash Limpballs
Today boys and girls, we are tired of hearing about Reich wing conspiracies, because they are true, so therefore, really can't be considered conspiracies. We love God, Bush and country and know that they have our best interests at heart and wouldn't do anything that would hurt us--even if they have to lie to protect us.
But lets not talk about that. Let's talk about the LIBRULS!
Number one on the list--one word.
CHAPPAQUIDDICK! Ted Kennedy killed his young mistress.
Next up--let's talk about Clenis and his affairs.
Why it seems to me he couldn't keep his dick in his pants or out of young interns mouths.
Then we can smear Senator Kerry some more for lying about his war record.
We will keep digging folks--and you keep right on talking about what I am telling you...the only way we can keep the light off of ourselves is to keep it on them.
Okay, that's it for my show today. Don't forget to keep drinking the KoolAid, saying to yourself 100 times before you go to bed that * is the greatest thing this country has ever seen, and keep repeating CHAPPAQUIDDICK! That's it for me....God Bless America!
(mike off) turns to producer and laughs "Taking candy from babies"--snicker snicker snicker. Now hand me my fucking oxycontin!
:sarcasm:
