Top Dems silent about Downing St. memo.
It will slip down the memory hole as it is already being buried with the News Week retraction. NW should not have retracted because other news sources have reported similar stories about Koran desicration events at Gitmo. NW must have been pressured hard by BushCo to retract.

1. But what Newsweek retracted wasn't the entire story, it retracted only
the statement that an unnamed person at the Pentagon had said an upcoming Pentagon report would mention the desecration. This Pentagon person retracted their statement and Newsweek was legally obligated to retract it as well.

There are dozens of accounts from previous prisoners that corraborate the original story, as well as testimony from an ex-interrogator that corraborate the original story.

2. Thanks for clearing that up.
I think that we know that the Lame Stream Press, esp. TV will diss NW and make them the scapegoat for the Muslim riots over it. In the meantime the Downing St. memo will be buried. Top Dems don't want to touch it because they support the Bush Junta Iraq agenda.

3. It Never Was A Story
While 98 Representatives signed a letter, I didn't see a press conference or any follow up on this letter. Each morning, when they're in session, I watch the 60-second speeches on the House floor and only heard a few mentions about this memo there. This story never got much play at all.

While I can see the Senate Democrats busy with Bolton and the Nuclear option crap...and you see Biden and Ted Kennedy on the tube, the only Representative I've seen try to get any attention is John Conyers, and he can only get on networks like BET and Air America...preaching to the choir.

I view this memo like the Pentagon Papers. For years, the media, in a far different time, tried to play down the truths of those documents...that our own government would purposely lie to wage war, and I sense history is repeating itself. There's a denial in this country about this invasion. Many still can't come to grips as to our role there or how much more of one this country should have (of course, as long as it doesn't involve their own bacon or their kids). We haven't even started the real evaluation of how this mess happened in the first place. People don't want to believe they were lied to...not just once or twice, but repeatedly.

5. The majority of Amerikan people...
don't want to hear that they were lied to because then they would have to do something about it. What could they do about it since at least 54% of them voted for this criminal bunch that are ruining this country and scraping the freedoms that have been hard ought to retain?

6. We Can't Even Say A Lie Is A Lie
Edited on Mon May-16-05 07:19 AM by KharmaTrain
I'm tired of the Begala types who try to be nice-nice and avoid saying the fact that this regime lies brazenly and repeatly. It's as though it's like using the "n" or "c" word...no Democrat can dare say this regime and it's enablers LIE LIE LIE

They don't "mis-state", they don't "confuse things"...they LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's time Democrats, Liberals, Progressive and others stood up and started to take our language back. No longer will I tolerate any wingnut buzzword or talking point, and I'm not afraid to put it in their faces how immoral and hypocritical they are. It's time more voices said the same thing.

10. Like A Sheep He Does
There were so many days I wish he'd just look Novakula in the face and call him the liar he is. Nope. It wasn't until Leslie Blitzer cut down his faith that the guy finally got his hackles raised.

And Begala's one of the more "progressive" of the talking heads on corporate media. Most the others...especially Representatives are afraid to say boo about this regime and put it in their face.

In the meantime, the lies continue and become filtered into "fact" and we lose even more ground.
