1. Yes! No matter what they say now, we all know those stories sound like

something the US military would do. I believe it happened. The Jeanie is out of the bottle and no matter how we deny it, the Islamic world is going to use this to rouse those who were anti-insurgent but who will now be anti-American.

2. The govt. source DID indicate that the Koran was flushed...

CNN has been reporting the story in such a way to make viewer THINK that a copy of the Koran was never flushed down any toilet by the US Military.

The fact is that the "official govt. source" said that he could recall WHERE it was flushed but clearly remembers reading that THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. So, it may not have happened at Gitmo but it happened somewhere and was done by the US Military.

CNN is purposefully playing down that part of the story and the are highlighting the fact that "Newsweek was wrong" about the entire incident. It's only when you listen to the report very carefully that you discover that there is still more to this story. CNN and Newsweek have been coerced by the government to retract this story in such a way that it sounds completely false.

5. It is very obvious and Orwellian.

The "flushing of the Koran" story sounds extremely similar to the other verified stories out of Gitmo about whores being brought in to menstruate on the prisoners, a very deliberate pattern of abuse designed specifically to violate the Koran and humiliate the prisoners.

But then again, the "forged" Rather memos set the precedent for this kind of thing last year, didn't they. They "appeared to possibly be forged", therefore the media left it at that, leaving the public with the impression that the memos, and the facts in them, were false, even though the memos were NEVER proven to be false, and every fact in them was backed up 100% by the secretary who typed them.

It's amazing and disgusting that the "fourth estate" is doing CYA for the BFEE. God only knows what pressure was brought to bear.

Anyway, I've hated Newsweek for ages, because they run that corpse, Krauthammer's columns. Hate that fucker.

6. I ended my decade long Newsweek subscription this year

The right-wing tilt had become so obvious and Jesus or the Pope was on every other cover. The news value in the magazine about equals the news value of a day of CNN programming.

Speaking of CNN, they are playing this Newsweek story about every 15 minutes today. It's way more coverage than they gave to the original Newsweek story and the coverage of the violent protests combined.

The real questions are never asked. Just the spin afterword. It's not "why would someone with a Gay daughter be against GAY people and use the issue to get elected" it's why would John Kerry dare to mention this, thus proving he's insensitive to the Gay daughter.
