Dennis Prager and Robert Novak Trivialize the Holocaust
Dennis Prager, Columnist and Radio Host

Recently, Justice Antonin Scalia and columnist Ann Coulter gave separate university lectures.

Each was followed by a question-and-answer section in which a student asked a rude question.

At the Huffington Post on May 13, 2005, conservative columnist Dennis Prager wrote, "Nazi Germany and the gas chambers play a great role in my thinking…the students…(are) our version of the Hitler Youth."

Gee, Mr. Prager, maybe you should try thinking some more!

Hitler Youth supported the government, they didn't question the government or its supporters.

To this day, innocent people are killed and tortured. References to the Nazis may add or detract to understanding these contemporary incidents.

However, Dennis Prager comparing these students who asked rude questions to Nazis trivializes the suffering of the Nazi years.

Robert Novak, Columnist and TV Pundit

Robert Novak also recently used a Nazi reference which trivializes the Holocaust.

Robert Novak compared Senate Democrats to Nazis on the "Capital Gang."

This occurred during a discussion of the filibuster.

On the CNN show aired on May 14, 2005, Robert Novak
said that compromising on the filibuster and letting Senate Democrats allow some of the filibustered judges get confirmed (but not others) was like letting Nazis decide whom to send to a "death chamber."

AL HUNT: Bob, why would Senator Frist refuse an offer to break the deadlock?

ROBERT NOVAK: Because the whole system (inaudible) you're not going to have -- like going to a concentration camp and picking out which people go to the death chamber. You're not going to let the Democrats do that, say, We're going to -- we're going to confirm this person, we're not going to confirm the other person.

Video of Robert Novak trivializing the Holocaust is at:
Crooks and Liars.

There is a big difference between a contemporary California state judge remaining there and not getting promoted to the federal bench, and a prisoner at a World War II-era Nazi camp in Poland being sent to his or her death.

Religion of These Pundits

Dennis Prager is Jewish.

Robert Novak was Jewish until he converted to Catholicism in 1998.

That doesn't make this acceptable.

It's wrong to trivialize the Holocaust regardless of one's religion or ethnicity.

Robert Novak owns "The Capital Gang," but CNN doesn't have to air it.

CNN should give Novak a choice: he apologzies or they cancel the show.

Similarly, the Huffington Post should give Dennis Prager a choice: he apologzies or can't post anymore.

2. I saw Prager's piece this morning. I was shocked.
Such a horrible man. I thought maybe I was reading it wrong.

4. In terms of comparing something trivial to the actions of the Nazis,
it would be difficult to go further than Dennis Prager.
