Question from me
Something I was wondering dealing with all the scandals going on now. If we don't get him and he gets to leave office is there any way to get him as a private citizen for all his crimes?

1. Just a guess really
but I think it would be possible. Thing is I can already hear it being said that he's out now let's just move on, why go back and rehash all this stuff. Would there be the will to it?

4. I wonder myself
I wish we could get them for all their crimes. Stealing 2000, illegal war, stealing 2004. I bet they were also involved in the anthrax ordeal.

6. Yep. We'll get the "let's just move on" chorus crowing
loudly and in lock-step...right on cue.

We'll hear:

"It's best for America if we just go forward"
(and the weak will fall for that lie)

and when it happens again..and it WILL happen again if Shrub Inc isn't brought to justice...those same roosters will crow about how this time is different..and.."let's not bring up the past"

and the illusion will continue...

7. Didn't Nero say "let's just move one" as Rome burned?
Nothing to see here, forgive everything, "pretend that nothing happened".

Elephant is in the room, ladies and gentlemen. Begin ignoring in 5, 4, 3...

2. Yes. But not likely
Edited on Sun May-15-05 05:38 PM by Dr.Phool
It would just invite retaliation down the road. The smart thing would be to just elect honest politicians. Right after pigs fly and Jesus returns.

on edit: Nixon and Kissinger are prime examples of war crimanals running loose. Nixon died quietly of old age, and Henry continues to build his fortune. We won't even talk about Reagan.

3. short answer?
You bet there is. Class action suits by soldiers, treason charges for knowingly lying this country into an illegal, nonsensical and destructive war, and that's just the beginning over one issue. One can also follow the money for a lot of bribery charges and conflicts of interest with favored legislation from the poison pill bill to that horror of a bankruptcy bill.

Everything this man has done has been unethical to downright illegal. If he manages to get out off office without an impeachment, he can be chased for many years.

5. I hope so
Maybe the ACLU can get him if we don't get to impeach him. How ironic would that be? A lot of his supporters can't stand the ACLU and I think it'd be quite funny. ;) I would watch that trial for sure.

8. Join the World Court and let them indict him and his minions ,,,
for war crimes.

Also, let the World Court try Saddam Hussein, but put in the docket beside him his co-conspirator: Donald Rumsfeld -- his good buddy who in the 1980s supplied him with weapons, including chemical weapons, to make aggressive war on Iran.

9. I really believe that something has to be done to stop the abuse
that this Administration has imposed on America and if it takes charging him with whatever (there are so many laws that have been "broken") after he gets out - so be it. The destruction of "America as we know it" cannot be just let go.

11. I would hope that he could be prosecuted as a private citizen
but history hasn't given us much to hope for. Richard Nixon should have been prosecuted, but walked away scot free, though in disgrace. Enough time passed, and when he croaked, he was lauded as a "great statesman". It was absolutely nauseating, remembering the things he resigned over.

And Bush has so much more on his plate than Nixon did that it's staggering - but I would venture that should he leave office before the end of his term through impeachment or resignation, that he will not be prosecuted and that matters will be dropped in the name of "healing" or "uniting the nation".

You know - the same way that we were urged to just live with the results of the 2000 election - for the sake of "unity".

Yeah.
