CSPAN caller from Clayton, Ohio
http://www.c-span.org/homepage.asp?Cat=Series&Code=WJE&ShowVidNum=6&Rot_Cat_CD=WJ&Rot_HT=206&Rot_WD=&ShowVidDays=100&ShowVidDesc=&ArchiveDays=30

I would like for you folks to do me a favor and click on the above washington journal link and listen to about two and a half minutes of mean-spirited venom against a democratic caller. It is washington journal from yesterday (May 13th). The question was "Have the terrorists won?"... fast forward to the 41:35 minute segment and you will catch it from the start. This female Bush supporter was downright nasty, rude, spitting in her phone just because a democratic caller said that a few soldiers that recently died from her home state died for nothing (Bush's illegal war). If you want to hear the democratic caller, it is a couple of calls before the 41:35 segment.

Please listen to her and tell me what you think. Thanks.

1. I heard her early this morning
I know who you're talking about.

She was about as hateful a winger as I've ever heard. The thing is, they're all that full of hate.

2. hate is a form of fear. so the question is... what are they so afraid of?
certainly, it's not the terrorists.

5. losing the dream-state....
that they call reality. i have been accused myself of needing an enemy to distract my attention from myself. Lives and Identitys are handed-down through generations, and personal experience is of zero value, unless of course it can fit neatly in a previously labeled box.

12. They are afraid of things they don't understand
they are afraid to think on their own because it means they might accept things they aren't prepared to accept. Most basicly, they fear what to them is unknown.

6. You call that mild?
I've been listening to cspan for a while and have heard quite a few hateful callers but that one takes the cake. She had so much hatred in her voice. It was really sad. The guy I believe you are referring to sounds like a guy I work with (but it's not him). He makes me so damn mad with his idiot talk. Brian hung up on him one time because he had the nerve to yell at Brian, just because some people say the Bushies instead of the Bush's. It was great.

7. They need to believe their loved ones are serving a noble cause.
The woman is fighting a losing battle if she can't tolerate opinions different from hers, especially since the Iraq war is not a noble mission. It's breeding more anti-American sentiment, & with $8.8 billion of Iraq reconstruction funds missing, it's apparently making Halliburton, et al, rich beyond their wildest dreams.

One has to be blind & ignorant to support this war.

13. A guy came into the co-op today
with a pin on that said.."republicans need a lobotomy".

He had another pin that had a skull and crossbones..I said, "what does that mean?" He said.."Don't mess with me!":)

see this guy wearing a pin like that, though..I never would have thought he felt so strongly.

28. I'm betting she's walking around furious most of the time, now, since
nearly 60 percent of the country is questioning the validity of the Iraqi war, according to polls.

Must suck to be her.

15. I heard live and listened again when it was replayed
and both times I hated Brian Lamb for letting her go on and on.

For the thousandth time, Lamb is a conservative, practically everday is 70 percent pro Bush propaganda. From the NPC lunches to the Delay Celebrations to the American Enterprise Institute guests. I've been listening for years and it just gets worse.

21. I don't know, I hear a lot of people say that he is a conservative.
I don't see it but he just may be one. But that won't stop me from watching cspan. We can't let cspan turn into a place where most repukes and conervatives turn into. We can't give up on cspan, they are the only channel that is close to fair and balanced.

And you're right, he did let her go on and on. This happened other times with the other moderators...they let some republican crackpots go on and on. But it's not because they favor republicans, I think it's because they want everyone to see what crackpots they are, imo.

23. C-span
is great, don't get me wrong, but Lamb is the creator, the producer and the editor. He calls the shots on the in between live proceedings content. I've beeen listening everyday (headphones) for years and years and the right leaning shift is subliminal, but it's there. You learn to spot it when you start to take not which I have been doing carefully since 2001.

As an aside, here's an interview with Lamb that is heartening, but also telling.http://www.neh.gov/news/humanities/2003-03/channel.html

16. I Cannot Support Anyone Saying "Troops Died For Nothing" Because NOONE
Edited on Sat May-14-05 08:43 PM by cryingshame
has the right to make that judgement call about SOMEONE ELSE'S Life and Death.

How DARE anyone say another human being died for nothing when you have no fucking idea HOW that person felt about their mission and what they were and were not doing.

The dead's family may come to that realization in their own time and in their own way but I'll be damned to sit quietly by while people decide to shove their own personal judgements about intensely private and personal matters onto others.

Furthermore, anyone who thinks they're doing the Left a favor by saying 'died for nothing' need to understand that such a comment ends up leaving the Truth behind...

The troops died because of Bush's lies. And each troops death brings that reality home a little more closely each day.

19. Okay; I'm gonna run with that...
..instead of the possible flame you may have thought you'd get,and say that 1.This is just an opinion/theory; no I have not had family die in Iraq and cannot imagine what that must feel like.
2. (Having said that)Taking a look at the bigger pictue, which is what your last line seems to imply, maybe we should all take a min. to consider that obviously the lesson we are supposed to learn from all this(Iraq/Bush) is so big that it takes massive loss of human life to get it across. I think that says something for the problem we are facing; and it's damn scary. Yes/no?

22. Well, she's an idiot -- that's my first impression
The woman seems to be just another dittohead. For some reason, she needs to believe that the war actually means something -- but she can't quite seem to put into words exactly what the war is for, can she?

30. You people
have more intestinal fortitude than I do. I used to be a faithful watcher of CSPAN's Washington Journal...it was a daily part of my morning routine before work. I quit cold turkey after the election.
I know those people are out there. I see their nasty bumper stickers every day and hear the hate radio playing from my co-workers' offices.
I choose not to engage.
I hate what they're doing to our fine country.
I can't let that anger in. So, I live in denial.
