two women dressed in moslem attire and a young man also dressed in moslem
garb were on their way to the front of the K-MART store where i went in to shop earlier this morning as i was walking into the store. At the same time, one of the managers was making his way to the front of the store from one of the side aisles.

AMERICA, IF YOU THINK RACISM, HATE, AND DISCRIMINATION IS NOT ALIVE and well here IN AMERICA YOU HAD BETTER WAKE UP.

If looks could kill, the hateful way in which this manager looked at those women and that young man could have plainly killed them--he looked like he really wanted to harm them but contained himself, I suppose because it was daylight and he was surrounded by a lot of other shoppers. I hate to think what would or could have happened to those two women and that young man, if this man had met them out in some deserted parking lot in the dark of night.

Once upon a time, shortly after the 9/11 criminal act against the U.S., one of my neighbors who hailed from texas eons ago, said to me that she was "so proud of" her "texas boys"... (she was referring to a group of texans who decided to take matters into their hands and had burned a mosque out there in texas).

just to check out whether i was reading too much into the look this manager was giving the two women and the young man, i asked my husband, "did you see how this guy was looking at them?" He said, yes i did and we have bush to thank for the awakening of so much hatred in this country.

NOT TO MENTION ALSO that on the way to K-mart ... the truck in front of us was sporting the following three bumper stickers.

The first one had a red heart on it and it read, "I ( heart) HALLIBURTON". tHE SECOND BUMPER STICKER WAS SOMETHING ABOUT STANDING WITH DELAY. AND THE THIRD BUMPER STICKER HAD A PEACE SIGN DRAWN ON IT, AND WRITTEN ON THE BUMPER STICKER IT SAID,"THE SYMBOL < and it had the PEACE SIGN> OF AMERICAN CHICKEN SHIT."

it was a good thing my husband slowed down and let the truck get very far away ahead of us ... i was ready to yell out the window, if you love halliburton so much, and if the peace symbol is american chicken shit, why aren't you taking care of halliburton's oil and george w. bush's war, out in iraq where true lovers and brave men belong?"...
given the climate of fear here in Florida with Jeb's shoot no questions asked, i might not have made it home to post this. these days what goes here is, shoot if you feel threatened, there will be no questions asked.

very frightening indeed, isn't it?

2. It is frightening
:\ I feel bad for the two women and young man. I'm glad they were around people. I'm sure they know what to do now days. And here in the beginning of this whole ordeal Bush said not to hate them. Huh looks like his words of advice didn't get very far. And what is he doing about this? Nothing. These assholes are pure evil bastards and don't give a damn about anybody else. They all should be in Iraq now if they love it so much as you said. :\

5. Scary picture.
Edited on Sat May-14-05 01:23 PM by bvar22
This picture says more than I could ever say with words.
Do you see the depth of bullying, racial hatred that I do?
This wealthy, well fed aryian woman and her 3 friends were leaving a $1000/plate fund raiser for the Republicans. The Muslim woman was holding a sign that read, "Please don't kill my family".

7. my God ... it is almost the same look the k-mart manager had on him today.
what on earth could this woman be getting so upclose to the other woman about with such look of disgust and hated on her face?

the societal regressiveness driven by bush ignorance, greed and need for power and control is sad.

9. Looks like the muslim woman was pushing into her
Edited on Sat May-14-05 02:14 PM by ConfuZed
and I disagree with your characterization of the blond woman as "aryian" its equal to calling the muslim woman a "terrorist", prejudice regardless of who's the target is unfair IMO.

BTW I'm an african american DU'er.

14. I witnessed the event.
Edited on Sat May-14-05 03:51 PM by bvar22
The blonde and her friend first circled around the Muslim woman taunting her with racial slurs. The blond then grabbed the Muslim woman by her clothes and pulled her forward while leaning back and cursing her. You can see that the Muslim's womans arms are at her side. It was like the blond was trying to lift her off her feet. (She may have in fact done so.)

You said:

You are entitled to your opinion, but I strongly disagree. The terms are NOT equivalent.

One would have to be ignorant of History to ignore the obvious. Research the 3RD Reich and view their pictures representing the Pure Nordic Aryian. My comment was in reference to the Racial Hatreds pertinent to THAT particular time in history which certainly have parallels in contemporary America. The people who attacked the Muslim (and it was an attack) did not know her and were motivated STRICTLY by RACISM. If you had witnessed the attack, observed their encirclement, and heard the racial taunts, you would agree with me. I have no particular prejudice against Nordic Ayrians. I do have problems with Nordic Aryians who behave like Nazis. Look at the approving grin on her friend in the hard hat.

After taking the picture, I shouted at them to STOP! and began running toward them. (I was using a lens and was further away than the photo suggests.) I shouted that I had evidence of assault (showed them my camera) and told them I was calling the Police. The blond pushed the Muslim woman backwards, and she stumbled and sat down hard on the pavement. I AM a BIG BOY, and they decided to quickly leave (laughing and cursing over their shoulders). I helped the Muslim woman up and asked if she was hurt. She replied that she was OK. She was amazingly calm and not disturbed by the confrontation. She picked up her sign and assumed her place on the sidewalk after thanking me.

I stand by my characterizations. I don't know any of the people in this photograph, but I DO know what these images evoke. It is the images that I am talking about. Perhaps the photo evokes something else in you, but most people see the same thing I see.

16. Nothing to it, and welcome to DU.
My experience that day is superimposed on that photograph, so I see it in a different light from everyone else. I am not able to see it objectively separate from everything else. It was appropriate for you to question it.

Please don't let my reaction prevent the future expressions of your opinions or insights. DU can be rough sometimes, but our opinions and insights are all we really own.
Good on you.

11. I used to think
that America was more tolerant.

But here's an exercise. Dress up as a Muslim and watch the hatred flow.
I have been in the footsteps of Muslim (I was a practicing Muslim for about a year and half)
I was dressed in full Muslim garb, face veil and all. Here in Grand Rapids, Michigan where the red necks roam. I got a lot of stares and even some hassles. Men were generally more respectful to me, opened doors and such. It was the women that had a problem with me. They stared at me with such hate that I should have been vaporized by their looks.

My mom was worried that something would happen to me and begged me to stop wearing my clothes. She made fun of Muslims and Middle Easterners and still does at times. She says it has nothing to do with the religion but just that these people are idiots. I got mad at her for the idiots comment one day the I turned around to her and said "As if we arent't

I'd tell more but I don't have time

It's sad, but this is one hell of an insane asylum that we are in.

12. I watched where I wore salwar kameez after 9/11
I am of germanic/danish/india or pakistani stock, blonde germanic looking. I quit wearing my india wear out many places after 9/11, or wore the dresses without the matching pants because of these looks, even in the liberal part of the country I live in. Sad

13. One of the families at my daughter's preschool are observant
Muslims. I worry about them, especially after that 16 year old girl was held without charges in NY.
