What they might not realize is that the pagans are rather politically savvy, considering they've been have expecting this sort of thing for a long time and have been networking across the country and the world for several years. Many, if not most, are seriously involved in progressive politics in one form or another (one of our local elders was part of the Democratic caucus for the '04 election).

Pagans have also been building a larger community of tolerance as they've come out of the closet and become known in the greater community. Even if someone doesn't really "get it," almost all liberals and progressives will stand up for a witch's right to be a witch.

The Religious Reich might just grab that cat by the tail and find out that it's not the innocent little putty tat they thought it was. It just might be a mountain lion in disguise.

I prefer to think of them as crows, squawking, irritating crows that covet the love and good will we have here, that fear our accomplishments and are jealous of our actual caring, so jealous they try to steal them from us, taking the shiny objects back to their nests. Squawking all the way, convinced that their squawks will drown out our voices.

As crows, they have no real use or understanding for what we have and they mistake the shiny objects for all that we treasure. They have no idea that the shiny objects are not our treasures and that our treasures are our shared values, our deep respect for mankind and love of nation. They can take all of the shiny objects they want, they can never steal our treasures, our love.
