9. Details for the TV impaired, please!
:hi:

Guess 1: Mostly blue closings for econ reasons
Guess 2: Mostly red clsoings since reds don't enlist as much

10. I don't remember much - I was yelling for my husband to come look
this is all that is on his site recap:

Clear the bases — Is it possible for the same Presidential administration to win two Middle Eastern wars — and peaces — costing hundreds of billions of dollars. While trimming what it perceives as fat from the rest of the Military-Industrial Complex? It's been Donald Rumsfeld's dream for years, if not decades: leaner, and if not meaner, then, more mobile. Today his dreams came true, along with nightmares at 188 separate military facilities. The Pentagon proposed closing 33 large military bases and 150 smaller sites.

13. McCaffrey doesn't think it makes much sense to bring troops
back from overseas to some of these bases during a war. Wondering about huge closing of guard/reserve bases. KO points out huge increase for Texas. Superimposes red/blue state map over base closing map; leaves it to viewers to draw their own conclusions....

16. Worse than that...

Because instead of just focusing on closures, he also took
into account who "wins" (where the military GOES when it leaves),
and by a HUGE margin, red states "win" and blue states "lose".

12. Tim Russert actually didn't sound like a mouthpiece on NBC
Edited on Fri May-13-05 07:34 PM by im10ashus
He was on Nightly News which I am embarrassed to say I had on. He actually used John Thune as an example of how this is going to be political, the Senator from SD that took the seat from Daschel. Thune's campaign was won by appealing to the voters that wanted that base there, and he is going to have to face them all now, which is serendipity at it's best. He also talked about Lieberman, who is basically a Republican if you ask me, because Lieberman also appealed to the "base" voters in the last election.
