7. The goal was to stop the trend towards militant Islam and to use democracy

as a tool to keep people busy living their lives and participating i the markets. Easier for corporations to dominate a democracy than an elite.

Problem is that the Iraq thing give Shiites much power in the north. And this leaves Sunnis in Egypt, Jordan, etc.. a little worried about being dominated by the Shiites again (they were in history). Plus democracy goes against everything the elites in Saudi Arabia stand for. Pakistan too. And all the religious extremists.

The middle east was really, really messed up when the US and the West pushed against democratic reform in the 1980s. They lost much time.

These are mistakes of the neocons & the father. Democracy is the only way out of the situation. And the USA will have to flip relations with all their allies in the Middle East. (Which they have done before). I mean now they have to favor the places that try democracy in its nascent and unstable form.. at all cost.

If they can just get the Saudis & Iranians to stop funding the insurgency & Islamic groups.. all would be easier. But I don't think they can.

Oil Money really messes up the geo-political. Really distorts stuff. As does all extreme wealth. I would say the biggest danger in the world right now are wealthy elites. They threaten democracy wherever they exist. I think this stopping the taxing progressively will show us how bad we need income taxes to level things out and keep uber-rich from existing. They are just ugly when they sneak into power (or are the strong oligarchy).
