Anti-Bush Message in new Star Wars movie?
Haven't seen it yet, but a few early reviews have mentioned an anti-Bush message in the upcoming Star Wars "Revenge of the Sith"

http://www.slantmagazine.com/film/film_review.asp?ID=1587
"I imagine that Revenge of the Sith is very much the film Lucas's fans want to see, but are some of them ready for an anti-Bush diatribe? Though every Star Wars film until now has existed in an insular comic-book world, a lot has happened since 1999 and 2002 in the real world and Lucas dares, for the first time, to address how the hollow political conflict in his franchise correlates with the reality outside its panels."

1. I thought
intelligence vs stupidity, sanity vs craziness, tolerance vs bigotry were overall themes of drama. That they mirror what is going on today politically is mere coincidence.

5. Grrr...
If I posted what I actually thought about your nonsensical generalizations about Star Wars fans I'd get banned.

If you actually believe that all sci-fi fans are just spotty teenagers who wouldn't know politics if it slapped them in the face then you need to get out more.

9. It is the Sheep not the Star Wars fans
I figured Star Wars fans would get upset about the time I posted.
I have nothing against the Star Wars movies, I have seen them all and will see this one.
IT IS THE SHEEP THAT WILL NOT GET IT.
I am sure that my 12 year old will get it also.

8. HEY !!!
I am one of the Star Wars fans. The parallels have been obvious to anyone who had their squeegee cleaned 3rd eye open.

The Phantom Menace: Smear tactics against the then Supreme Chancellor Vallorum (clinton), vote of no confidence (impeachment).

Attack of the clones was a mirror of the "war on terror."

The "Supreme Chancellor" convinces the galactic senate to go to war, though being secretly in league w/ the leader. All so that the senate will grant him more powers (PATRIOT Act anyone ??).

The 3rd chapter seems to be a warning of what may happen if we allow it.

Most Dreamers are Liberals, these fans (NOT SHEEP!!!) are not as blind as most people think.

15. Oh so SW fans are sheep?
Don't talk shit unless you have a clue. Your generalizations are pathetic, sad, and wrong. Most of the SW fans that I know are a hell of a lot more intelligent than the people who diss them. SW has always paralleled current events. The OT was a metaphor for Vietnam. The small band of rebels fighting the huge Empire, gee could it be any more plain than that? If you dig into the books you'd be amazed at how close to reality the politics of SW is. Of course you are just another whiner, looking to tear something down so I wouldn't expect you to actually read...

As a sick, power hungry Republican.... even the death star was your typical over priced US base. or at this point, the death star is Halliburton.

10. No, no, Halliburton built the Death Star and sold it to the Bush admin.
For trillions, including the entire social security system.

7. Umm.... Yeah....
A Democratic Republic that is ran by a senate full of the chancellor's supporters that happens to be at war. The chancellor is given sweeping powers to do what he would and the quagmire continues to worsen without an end in site.

He then declares his principle opponents to be enemies of the republic, has them hunted down and shot, and declares himself emperor.

Without exception, everything on this list has happened. I'm still waiting for the round up of Democrats to begin....

11. Backwards comparison
Star Wars isn't emulating the * administration. It just depicts a method of destroying a democratic nation and forming an empire. The fact that it seems familiar is a coincidence.

The Freepers will freak out because they won't want their fearless leader held up to that mirror. A film that came out documenting the politics behind the rise of Nazi Germany would be met with the same howls of protest.

Watch Animal Farm. It'll scare the bejeezus out of you, and that's assuredly not about this administration.

12. I think originally he had Hitler's regime in mind
It just so happens that current politics are similar, and giving additional material for Lucas to draw from, I'm sure.

16. I'm somewhat of a Starwars fan...
and I get the anti-Bush message...maybe thats why I've been saying that Palpatine, who becomes the Emperor and just happens to be a Sith also is kind oflike Karl Rove or Dick Cheney, take your pick, he's the guy pulling all of the strings in the background, and is in total control, while Bush is kind of like Vader or any sith apprentice in the way he is the asshole who gets used, and looks like he's in total control but really isn't.

namely, to show passion and stand FOR something -- if I read the novelization correctly
