Africa new breeding ground for Muslim terrorists, says confidential report

Ottawa, May. 09, 2005 (CNA) - Conflict and extreme poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa have created a “permissive environment” for new recruits to al-Qaeda's terrorist network, says a newly released report by the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS).

"The poor, young, disaffected and undereducated members of these communities have provided terrorist organizations with intelligence and logistical support for their activities," the report said.

The Canadian Press obtained a censored version of an August 2004 CSIS report under the Access to Information Act. It was marked "Secret/Canadian Eyes Only."

The document, titled “The Islamist Threat in Sub-Saharan Africa”, says poor Muslim Africans are receptive to the idea of global jihad.

4. OBL operates out of the Sudan and look at the genocide in Rwanda
Yet we refuse to help out because there are no strategic resources in Africa. So the slaughter goes on.

5. Hardly TS
Who do you think is doing the genocide in Darfur? Who do you think has kept Somalia stirred up? Rwanda was an old old tribal situation and nothing to do with Islamists.

Sudan is an old hotbed of Islamic Jihadists -- remember the Madi and Khartoum? He swept across North Africa during the 1800s. OBL has spent a lot of effort in North Africa, especially in Sudan and Somalia.

Egyptians have had several major terrorist organizations and assassinated Sadat.

This is likely a major reason that Khaddafi worked out a deal with Europe and the U.S. There was dust and cobwebs in his nuclear half-built facilities -- he'd long ago given up on his WMDs -- but he is in a battle with jihadists -- especially since Libya does have some oil reserves.
