The most beautiful thing I've ever read at DU
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 03:58 PM by AWD
I've been here 2 years now. I've been through a lot on these boards. Never before has anything brought tears to my eyes. Until today.

The following is buried in the middle of a thread about our soldiers. I was afraid the sentiment might get lost, so I want to bring it to the forefront.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=361573#362010

I was with 2nd BTC, 3rd ID from Ft Stewart, GA. I drove into Baghdad on April 8th (Baghdad completely fell into our hands within 48hrsO. I was then sent to Fallujah (hoping I was gonna go home after they promised that they will if Baghdad falls).

To those of you that protested this war I have on thing to say: Thank you. Back in January and February of 2003 while still in Kuwait, we used to watch everything that was happening back home. We were hoping you would be able to bring us back home. At least 80% of us stationed in Kuwait at that time were greatefull for what you were doing. You guys came very close to brining us home nad I fully appreciate this. Now let's support those that are still there who hope that you will bring them home.

You're welcome, BROCocky. But I hereby reverse that 'thank you' and place it back upon you. You, and many other DUers who served, deserve our undying gratitude.

We're glad you're back with us, home again. We'll try our hardest to get the rest of your brothers and sisters back soon.

3. I was scanning his thread
on soldiers to see his response....and I was shaken by the realism of it all.

It had to be spotlighted.

And godspeed to your comrades who are still over there.

Your words mean a lot. Many of us worked so hard for so many months, and we were devastated when we failed.

They told us that our protests were hurting you guys over there, that we were demoralizing you. It's good to hear that you understood what we were fighting for.

8. I saw that, too. Went back and read it again several times.
Sure isn't anything we hear elsewhere, is it. DAMN, but I LOVE DU! AND, as I said in my earlier post to you, BROCocky, welcome.

We're glad you're back. We wish you ALL were. We wish you'd never gone, to begin with.

As the 9/11 widows said to Chris Matthews a few days back - we're not going away.

9. Thanks, BROCocky--really means alot to me
since that was the main reason for me personally protesting. I wanted you guys home, I wanted our country to keep our credibility around the world, and I didn't want to see thousands of innocent people killed--on both sides. I have always felt that as regular citizens, we have to speak up for those who can't, and guys like you who fight bravely do not have the same rights as we do to speak out. Thanks for your service, and thanks for the post.
