Question concerning the young Iraqi girl in the flowered dress, who was
bloodied by her parents' blood and screaming at an American military checkpoint, whose picture made the rounds earlier this year. I wondered who also still found her picture haunting, for I did, when I had seen it again on an antiwar site.

1. It is the one pic
that haunts me too. I just want to pick her up and put my arms around her.

2. I had recently seen her picture on the "Antiwar.com / Jesus On The Family"

OMG, on edit, I wonder if anyone could believe that all that was going on earlier this year when Bushie or * was having his $40 million inaugural or "installgural" extravaganza.

3. The little Iraqi girl crying
was one of the most haunting pictures of this war, imo. I have posted it often on rightwing sites to try to evoke some emotion from those who support this war, but ignore the terrible toll it has taken on the Iraqi people.

I know it wasn't the worst, compared to the pictures of dead and injured children and adults, but there was something so heart-wrenching to see that little girl, covered in her parents blood, sitting on the ground in the dark, surrounded by soldiers with guns, crying helplessly ~ and you know that her parents are both dead, and her life forever changed ~

She has become a symbol of this war ~ and it happened on the weekend of the Bush coronation. All over the world, this was the picture people saw and were affected by, rather than the disgusting, pompous display of military might that was taking place in Washington.

I could not watch that inauguration. How can they sleep at night?

4. So she could be 1 of the key "poster children" for the costs of the Iraq
war, but NOT the key "poster child." As for the "installgural," I tried to avoid as much of it as I could, too.

5. She looks like a sister or twin of my best friend's daughter
She is Persian, her daughter was the spitting image of her about 3 years ago. That picture makes me feel sooo weak and weapy.

7. Egads, I wonder if her present reality from at least Jan 2005 on, would be
the FUTURE reality of some kid in IRAN. :scared: :puke: :scared: :puke:.

10. Cheri (Shiftah is her Persian name) has nightmares about it
almost every night... she is turning into a basket case. And what's worse.... she is desperate to return to Iran this summer to see her recently deceased mothers grave (WITH her 2 girls). I have become so adament that she not do so that we are having arguments!

12. I indirectly knew the guy who was at 1 time the 1 time "Acting Ambassador"
to Iran, and considering how he was of the school of thought as to how everyone should forgive Iran but not forget the hostage incident, I bet he would no doubt be AGAINST any possible war.

21. Shifta was the word the Eritreans used for bandits.
I wonder if it is related?

Tigrinia is related to Arabic.

22. Her family owned about 1/5 of Iran before the Shah
Edited on Mon May-09-05 12:47 AM by alittlelark
It could be right. They still own a big chunk, but it is spread about in European Accts. She was a black sheep and sent to the US.

Edited because Iraq is not Iran

25. over 50 % of the country is under 30.... they have no use
for theocracy - I'm sure you know that the only reason the theocracy is becoming more liberal is due to the fact that they know they will be taken out.... it's just a question of when.

26. Here's hoping an IRANIAN real life LES MISERABLES type drama will play
itself out, and play itself out SOONER rather than LATER. I wonder if anyone could imagine, by the way, people singing "Do You Hear The People Sing?" in FARSI.

28. Didn't IRAN show that they could change their regime WITHOUT American help
just fine, some 20 odd years ago, though they did end up with the Ayatollah, everyone, including some Iranians loved to hate.

29. But this time it is a generational war. When the Shah was overthrown
it was due to the fact that 90+ % of the population recognized him as a western (ie:US) tool) he was propped up in far too obvious of a way (we've learned how to do it better since).

Now, the citizens of Iran are faced with continuing the impotent (walk into most Iranian homes - beer, wine, females baring their whole face!!) regime that is terrified of them.

I wish we had it so good.

16. Bet that girl wished she could do something to convince herself that the
Iraq war stuff was just some sort of "crazy nightmare." I was also sure certain NY'ers wished they could have done something to convince themselves that a certain terrorist incident was also some sort of "crazy nightmare."

17. More pictures that should never have been possible at Robert Fisk's site.
http://www.robert-fisk.com/

Images that are never seen, should never have happened, and should be pasted over every ad or commercial running in the US until those who are responsible are behind bars, at least.

threat either. She never hurt anyone. However, bush hurt her anyway. Killed her Mother as well earlier on in the war. Why did bush hate her?
