Laura's 'Comedy' Routine at WH Correspondent's Dinner
So I was just thinking back to Pickle's so-called comedy routine last Saturday at the WH Correspondent's Dinner. Specifically, the joke about her, Lynne Cheney, Condi Rice and Karen Hughes going to Chippendales, and Lynne Cheney's new SS code name being Dollar Bill.

That got me to thinking: When Hillary Clinton was First Lady, if she had made that very same joke, what would have been the reaction of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and some of those other jokers on the so-called Christian right? They would have had a field day, and said that Hillary's joke was inappropriate and one more example of the immorale values of the Clinton clan.

Yet, not one peep out of them about Laura's joke.

2. No, not surprised at all.
It's just another example of the so-called Christian "right's" double-standards, and the fact that many of them aren't really so Christian after all.

4. Oh yes they absolutely should.
This is another example of how the Democratic Party has failed miserably over these past years, at pointing out the inconsistencies and failures of the Repug Party.

They just don't really seem to have much fight in them.

9. are they failing?
I wonder how important it is to have the Dems tell everyone what her jokes were inappropriate. Because as soon as they do then it becomes a Dem/Repub things and the Repubs just get all uptight and mad because the Dems are trying to make hay out of it. But what if you just let it lay there. And the Republican sees it and thinks: what the heck! In such a partisan atmosphere which works better? I'm thinking they have it right.

6. Outrage, about what?
It was eseentially a "roast" Suffice it to say the jokes were awful & tasteless, but that's what a Roast is. Some of theThe Reich Wing is outraged about this & that's fine. Let them self destruct. The hypocrisy is becoming more evident if the Dems remain silent.

7. They're blatant hypocrites perverting religion to help w destroy America
I've been fascinated by the hypocrisy for years.

Now I am alarmed at their current position of power, and what they might try to bring about.

I truly fear for my nation.

10. You might get a kick out of this
May 5, 2005 – Last weekend, an anonymous individual created a phony letter with an altered TVC logo on it, to criticize First Lady Laura Bush at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on April 30 th.

The bogus group called the Coalition for Traditional Values, issued its letter supposedly written by a Rev. Roy DeLong. The phony letter was picked up by the Drudge Report and reported it as fact instead of satire.

TVC’s phone has been ringing off the hook from reporters asking for more information. MSNBC was conned into thinking this was a real group. They called TVC to book a spokesman as a guest based on this satirical letter.

(snip)

Rev. DeLong said in his satirical letter: “…we saw our President undermined, mocked and emasculated by his own wife on the most public of stages, and at a time when his manliness is already under attack. We saw the leader of the free world seemingly unable to lead his own family.”

12. It just goes to show
that most of these so-called christians are much more about politics than spirituality. Jesus would have called them white-washed tombs.

14. She served a purpose. I think she was sent out there to bash down
the religious right and bewilder them "why I thought the Bushes were all white light?". I read somewhere else that she said those things to stop the coverage of her husband's press conference. That went bad. Because the President is a fool. And how could the press conference go good (possibly) when Bush is responsible for all at this stage and he is a fool. So schedule a Presidential news conference two days before the wife gets sent out there to outdo him.. in whatever way was neccessary... to shut up the coverage of the actual President.

That and the run-away bride kept people busy not on the content of the President's speech.

That makes sense to me too.
