in the wealthiest nation in the history of nations, no one should
- go hungry, ever.

- go without treatment for any disease or injury, ever.

- be without shelter, ever.

- lack access to basic, quality education, ever.

Thoughts?

5. We're pretty fucked
Edited on Sun May-08-05 09:36 PM by GirlinContempt
in how we view democracy, rights and freedoms. The rights people in North America seem willing to fight for are so obscure, while we let people die in the streets from preventable diseases. Like poverty. We view our whole culture as some kind of unquestionable evolution of politics and humanity, as if no one had any say in its creation and no one has any real say in it's fall. Or at the very least, total restructuring. Our narcissism, bred into us, fed by our whole culture, will be our demise. It's already been the death of millions of people worldwide, and yes, it's our fault. Thats why we need to support functional alternative models that challenge the fundamentals of our nations structures, our education, our beliefs. We need to keep these things up front, provide the power to the people who will, eventually, remake the systems and bring dignity and justice from the hands of the few to the lives of the many.

edited for redundancy

7. It is the fundamental difference between the Left and the Right.
It is odd that the only right the Right will recognize is the ownership of private property. But what is the obligation of a citizen to a country where all property is owned by someone else? That believes even a child has no "right" to medical attention. It is strange that the idea of instilling patriotism with a sense of shared obligation is a left wing idea. If we lived in a jungle and a child was sick, the witchdoctor would come. Wouldn't he?

11. I honestly wonder where we stand now in the world?
Where do you go to find out who's keeping track, and how bad has it become in the past 4-5 years? It surely has not gotten better for any Americans except the very rich.

13. How do those who are made wealthy on the backs of the working
class and yet feel no obligation to give back, live with themselves? Do they think they exist in a vacuum? Self made or not, somewhere along t he line, society was/is involved in their lives and fortunes. Somewhere along their path to wealth, others were involved. Those who worked for them, those who bought their products,ie, goods and services. How do they justify not giving back to the society that afforded them the opportunity to become wealthy? I don't get Greed, and I never will! There, but for the grace of whatever, go I. Words to live by.

15. The greedy don't care
because they can isolate from the poor with their wealth, they can never suffer because their money and connections insulate them from suffering want etc.,Because people do not push into the business and lives of the rich and demand their fair share the rich can get away with not caring.

As long as the poor talk among each other,do as they are told, keep feeding the economy keep selling their labor cheap, don't demand equality, and do not act in a way twords the rich that threatens the rich...Or makes the rich feel greedy hoarding their comfort...the rich can use their money and status to insulate themselves from the reality their greed imposes upon 90 % of those people living paycheck to paycheck who are way too compliant who MADE them rich.

the rich can get greedy when they are permitted to get away with it.

In reality no one is permitted to be a have more or hoard it all unless the people who have less accept HAVING LESS..
We are equal and we all suffer from the human condition.. and in a country that has the wealth like we do,we all deserve food shelter and health care etc. The have mores can't stop hoarding, unless we the people start taking back our fair share and demand living wages

WE can if we use solidarity and take a much needed vacation all at once, stop this economy cold, starve the rich refuse to work until the rich feel a pinch, and give us back what we deserve..
But we as people will need to be there for each other, share our space,, our homes transport food so that no one on strike fears being left out in the cold for trying to change things for the better in this country.Sharing is a bane to the rich who get fat off the middle class worker's fear of poverty and pink slips.

18. The Clash
This is a public service announcement
With guitar
Know your rights all 3 of them
I say
Number 1: You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a CRIME!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat
Number 2: You have the right to food money
Providing of course you
Don't mind a little
Humiliation, investigation
And if you cross your fingers
Rehabilitation
Wang! Young offenders! Know your rights
Number 3: You have the right to freeeee
Speech as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.
Know your rights
These are your rights
All 3 of 'em
It has been suggested
In some quarters that this is not enough!
Well..............................
Get off the streets
Get off the streets
Run
You don't have a home to go to
Smush
Finally then I will readd you your rights
You have the right to remain silent
You are warned that anything you say
Can and will be taken down
And used as evidence against you
Listen to this
Run

19. All other Western nations have some sort of universal health care mix.
because it works to keep costs down and people from dying and going into bankruptcy. And it costs business less in terms of health plans.

But it never will be. Not in the U.S. Never.

With those values I'd recommend emigrating to a more socially advanced country.

21. You make too much sense, my friend
You see, according to the right wing powers-that-be food, medical treatment, shelter and basic education are not rights, they're 'entitlements', to be apportioned to the highest bidder by the 'free-market'. So if people go hungry or die without medicine, its because they were lazy, incompetent and represent 'structural inefficiencies' to be weeded out by the Almighty free-market. :sarcasm:
