Bank of America Commercial
Edited on Sat May-07-05 07:31 PM by abernste
Has anyone seen this commercial from Bank of America where they are talking about how they are improving their ATMs? It's not really that interesting of a spot, but there is one part where they are trying to get across the point that they have ATMs in every state. They show a map, with a state turning red to signify coverage. In a couple of seconds, the whole country turns red.

Please tell me if I'm getting too sensitive about this kind of thing, but BOA has a real interest in seeing this country turn all red. Am I just being ridiculous???

1. good question
but since BofA still has some ties to the SF Bay Area, it's doubtful that the company would be too blatent about any political agenda

2. Haven't seen it,
and normally I'm pretty doubtful of people reading too much into ads, but in this case, you may have a point.

Red does 'pop' better on a TV than blue, and white is a bland color. But considering that red/blue states are a clear part of the political dialogue these days, you'd think somebody would've said something.

However, don't underestimate the general cluelesness of advertising folks.

3. Bankers are almost always republican - all they care about is $$$$$$$$$$$$
No, I don't think you're paranoid. When it comes to money, bankers are the most anal people I've ever met in my entire life. These people are a natural constituency of the republican party.

Go out to eat at a restaurant with a banker or bean counter accountant type - chances are they will tip 10% and not think twice. If they eat more than half, they offer to split the bill 50/50. If they eat less than half, they count out their order, forget to add in tax, then figure 10% for the tip.

These people figure their best shot at getting wealthy, is to screw the entire world out of nickels and dimes. (But today, it's $30 service fees.)
