Edited on Fri May-06-05 05:51 PM by DanCa
They guy was starting to back pedal big time. Funny I also thought of science as the how and the when and religion as the why and the who.
BTW has Randi brought up the church thing? I just got home from shopping.

4. Good article; no spin that I could see
Someone feel free to point out what I may have missed.

This is one reason why I object to people who OBJECT to Worldnet Daily being quoted here. Sometimes they actually have pretty good coverage; other times it's coverage you won't see elsewhere but is important because it shows rightwing stuff; etc.

7. Well, I agree with you.
I enjoy researching and writing about the Religious Wrong (theocratic right).

I read the sites frequently.

These sites let me know what's in their heads.

Obviously, I disagree with the vast majority of what they say.

It looks like a hurried post here; you're right - they didn't have time for spin.

It will be interesting how things pan out over the next few days.

I agree that quoting a site merely permits us to refine our arguments; by quoting, I'm not agreeing with them. They represent great material to refute, generally.

31. I used to have a very negative opinion of them,
mainly because a far-right whacko on my union BBS was forever quoting from it (like it was gospel!). A short while ago, I had posted that item on that BBS, hoping to get his goat.

But I can see now where they're coming from --- a more or less traditional conservative position ... ie: wrong-headed or not, they have PRINCIPLES. Check out http://antiwar.com, and you'll see a LOT of such traditional right-wingers who post there. And they're all prominent people.

Thanks for helping me come to that realization.

9. "Bush is the Second Coming of Christ!"
This is what a child shouted to us war protestors in 2003, with the smiling approval of his mother. I thought it was an isolated incident, but it is obvious it is not.

Going to the altar and repenting...sounded to me like the minister had agreed with what this kid said.

20. No joke
The mother was in a van and kept driving around the courthouse square where we were protesting, calling us traitors and telling us to "go back to Iraq where we came from". She had a boy and girl with her. We answered, "You have the right to practice free speech, just like we do." Apparently she figured we hadn't gotten the message, because she left, and a few minutes later, here comes her boy on a bicycle. He circled the block a couple of times, saying Bush was great-we responded in our usual way. And then he said the words I quoted in my thread-and was very pleased with himeself because no one answered him.

Later that day a middle aged woman came across the street and spat on us, calling us traitors. We said "You have the Constitutional right to free speech--" and before we could finish, she turned around and mimed using the Consitution as toilet tissue and uttered an explative about said document. The deputy sheriff came over and got her away-he knows us and knew we weren't going to do anything, but the woman was ready to claw us with her fingernails.

I think these people have been cloned and spread around the South. Or maybe they are related to that minister....

18. Sorry, that child is not alone in her sentiments.
My cousin, the closest thing to a sister I have, recently agreed that, even if George Bush IS the Anti-Christ - it's only because he loves Jesus SOOOOO much that he is willing to play that part.

So, here's where the right-wing, religiously insane really are these days: They've ACCEPTED him being the Anti-Christ, and they love him even more for bringing them "The End of The World" they so desperately seek.
Go figure.

Don't worry, though - THEY are the ones in control of America's Nuclear Arsenal! :nuke:

16. I relate to what you are saying.
I kind of kept an eye on things for the year before the election. When my neighbor would spout the Rethuglican talking points right after going to church, I knew what was going on.

Awfully hard to get something that can be forwarded on to AU though (Americans United for Separation of Church and State) - they take a look and will make a report to the IRS if it is warranted.

21. Yep, That's their goal! This is the new age CRUSADE
They equate "liberals" and democrats with witches, warlocks, demons, and heretics! They THINK their numbers are bigger than they are however. Many have sat in those churches listening to the filth they spew and decided to try the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Now they won't be able to lie by omission. Are American churchgoers really ready to start all out war in the streets with their neighbors do you think? Typically MOST liberals have a "live and let live" policy. are they ready to FINALLY stand up and tell these delusional Bible beaters THEY are the TRUE minority?

25. I hear you.
I am a person of faith (Church of Religious Science with an occasional visit to UU), but I investigated the top administration - before I went to my churches - to make sure I didn't mind my money flowing upwards to the staff there.

One may be a liberal Southern Baptist, but one's money is flowing upwards to the likes of Richard Land and Albert Mohler, via their administrative positions. I couldn't live with that.

And, has anyone read the SBC's (Southern Baptist Convention's) resolutions on wives and homosexuality? Stunning, horrible.

I say this knowing that my in-laws moved from the West Coast to the Midwest and BECAME Southern Baptists; needless to say my hubby does most of the talking to them now.

He just left churches affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. There are Baptist churches that have broken off from the Convention, seeking a more moderate stance on equal rights, separation of church and state, etc.

41. Well, the South is going no where now! I'm in it and plan to stay.
Grew up in CA, lived in NY, and now I'm in No. Virginia (for many years), a blue beacon in a state about to turn blue. I get nervous when I hear this 'secede' talk.

Remember a couple of things:

In the war of 1812, there was substantial New England sympathy for the British expressed and even the notion of New England setting itself up as a separate nation. We don't bash them today for that.

In the Civil War, the rights of all Americans were protected by maintaining the union. Talk about a travesty. Iimagine the pain in the South if the union fell apart.

This incident may have occurred in the south but remember, every day in California, Free Republic publishes and does it's thing. Are we going to get rid of them too.

:hi:
