"Terrorism". Take a quiz?
Edited on Fri May-06-05 05:50 PM by LynnTheDem
1. If you are terrified of spiders, and if I know that, and if I tie you to a chair and drape spiders all over you until your mind breaks with fear...was I terrorizing you? Would I be a terrorist?

In my opinion, the answer to the first is yes, and the second is no.

2. If you were out gardening and just for something evil to do I tossed an IED at you and you never knew; you were just here one minute and dead the next...did I terrorize you? Would I be a terrorist?

In my opinion, the answer to both questions is no.

3. If I threw what looked like a grenade, but was actually a harmless fake with a harmless explosion of smoke, into a crowd, was I terrorizing the crowd? Would I be a terrorist?

In my opinion; yes, and no.

4. If I sent warning letters to the media that I was going to blow up a crowd in busy-street X, and I then did #3 (harmless smoke grenade), would that make me a terrorist?

In my opinion, yes.

5. If I did #3 (harmless smoke grenade into a crowd) and THEN sent letters to the media saying I was going to blow up a crowd, would that make me a terrorist?

In my opinion, yes.

6. Does someone have to suffer grievous bodily harm or die to make someone to be a terrorist?

In my opinion, no.

7. Does the threat, real or imagined, of grievous bodily harm or death have to exist to make someone a terrorist?

In my opinion, yes.

8. Does a terrorist just kill to kill, or does a terrorist kill for an objective?

In my opinion, a terrorist by definition kills for an objective.

What is your definition of "terrorized" and "terrorism" and "terrorist"?

1. My definition
in this times, and for these times, a terrorist is someone who has chosen to follow an agenda that will result in fear and anxiety among a group of people.

To terrorize is to do actions which promote this agenda; this can include not only acts of violence, but also threats of violence and faked examples of terrorism (faking an execution and posting it online, or writing a press release that says a group has killed a missing person who later turns up alive).

Terrorism is a series of action fueled by a political agenda. The point of terrorism is to change behavior of individuals or a society.

The definition of terrorism is:

Terrorism is a series of action fueled by a political agenda. The point of terrorism is to change behavior of individuals or a society.

But then what if a man terrorizes doctors and nurses at bomb-point to operate on his wife after they'd refused to do so, and this man doesn't have any political agenda, or any agenda at all, other than healing his wife.

Is he a terrorist?

He doesn't fit the definition.

But if he isn't, what is he?

7. That was my leaning, too.
I was thinking that if his actions led to the fulfilling of the definition altho minus the agenda requirement, one could argue things like the Black Death was a terrorist, as the result of the plague caused wide political and behavioural changes.

Why do I enjoy confusing the hell out of myself??? :D
