The Hard Right rears it's ugly head
In my fake 'Bush is too liberal' group I was led to this:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheNewVictorians/

Here is the 'platform' for this Hard Right group.

~ We promote a revival of Victorian/traditional style in architecture and design, and the gradual demolition of contemporary eye-sore buildings.

~ We want fashion to return to Victorian aesthetics and standards of elegance, femininity, dignity and modesty.

~ We consider classical music and dances to be "the" music.

~ We would like to see less cars, television, airplanes and industrial food, and technology to be pursued without becoming "de-humanizing".

~ We value a traditional kind of family as a stable union of a man and a woman.

~ We oppose leftist politics and "politically correct" madness.

~ We encourage every ethnicity to proudly value its own identity and culture, and to stop the racial and cultural blending which is destroying everyone's beauty and traditions.

2. Well, they had me until we got to
"We value a traditional kind of family as a stable union of a man and a woman."

The downhill skid after that was dizzying.

3. and cultural blending which is destroying everyone's beauty and traditions
No diversity allowed. No dissension allowed. No discussion allowed. When I was six I had a clubhouse with No Girls Allowed painted on the side. I grew out of that stage...

4. Good for them, they can start by foregoing medical treatment
although they'll have tincture of opium over the counter as their cureall.

A substitution will simply have to be found for whalebone, though, since there aren't enough whales left to supply the newly minted demand for corsets. Perhaps we can persuade the men to wear the corsets this time.

9. "less" cars?
:grr:

Well I demand a return to learning how to WRITE, assholes.

BTW, in Victorian times, children died in the street, diseases ran rampant, and debtor's prisons and poorhouses were all the rage.

Do they propose a return to those things?

:eyes:

17. And
the rate of prostitution was somewhere around 30%. This people tend to forget when they talk "Victorian."

I'm all for less cars and demolishing ugly new buildings, though.

13. I actually agree with about 40 percent of that
Culturally - fashion, music, architecture, literature, etc - the Victorian period was fantastic.

I don't see any problem with less cars, televisions, and industrial food.

I would like to see the divorce rate fall dramatically, though I am not into gay-bashing.

I'm a moderate and am politically incorrect. Though this may be about bringing back debtor prisons.

That last one is pretty awful beyond "and to stop."

14. Tipped their hand here:
"We encourage every ethnicity to proudly value its own identity and culture, and to stop the racial and cultural blending which is destroying everyone's beauty and traditions. "

This used to be called "separate but equal" and we had a hell of a time trying to reverse that kind of thinking - and the battle still is not won.

White supremacists, plain and simple.

Anyone who thinks the Victorian Era was the "good old days" should have to use an outhouse through the month of August in the Deep South. Charming, delicate experience, that.

15. Every single
modern behavior that these people deem as immoral was being done in the "Victorian" era...it was just covered up or lied about. All these people want to do is put the lights out.

20. Is it bad that I agree with some of that?
I agree that the Victorian style buildings are generally more aesthetically pleasing to me.

I agree that there should be fewer cars, fewer hours spent watching TV, and natural food is better.

I like classical music but I don't know that I would call it "the" music.

The others I found hilarious although quite disturbing.

24. I feel a surge of deep satisfaction
Edited on Fri May-06-05 06:31 PM by neebob
Much as a king astride his noble steed
When I return from daily strife to heart and wife
How pleasant is the life I lead!

I run my home precisely on schedule
At 6:01, I march through my door
My slippers, sherry, and pipe are due at 6:02
Consistent is the life I lead!

Oh, wait a minute - that was a few years later. Aw, what the heck:

It's grand to be an Englishman in 1910
King Edward's on the throne
It's the age of men
I'm the lord of my castle
The sovereign, the liege
I treat my subjects - servants, children, wife
With a firm but gentle hand
Noblesse oblige

It's 6:03 and the heirs to my dominion
Are scrubbed and tubbed and adequately fed
And so I'll pat them on the head
And send them off to bed
Ah, lordly is the life I lead!

A British nanny must be a general
The future empire lies within her hands
And so the person that we need to mold the breed
Is a nanny who can give commands

A British bank is run with precision
A British home requires nothing less
Tradition, discipline, and rules must be the tools
Without them, disorder ... catastrophe ... anarchy
In short, we have a ghastly mess!

Just out of curiosity, why do you have a fake "Bush is too liberal" group? What's fun about that?

25. Actually, it's starting to scare me now
I thought it would be fun at first, but now it is getting kind of frightening. :scared:

Maybe I should delete it.

I am beginning to think that through this and other experiments, the number of Far RW'ers is very, very low and thus this group is actually kind of useless.
