Dems Excommunicated! LINK to the E. Waynesville Baptist Church Video.
Edited on Thu May-05-05 11:38 PM by UdoKier
Here it is, for your convenience.

http://www.spiffarino.completelyfreehosting.com/images/wlos.wmv

Quoting the previous thread:

WLOS tv just broke in to report that the East Waynesville Baptist church has officially excommunicated all its democratic members.

...the preacher told the congregation from the pulpit that if they didn't vote for * they had to come to the altar to confess their sins and repent. they could'nt be members....

..."One of the local women who got excommunicated said on TV that it was like a cult. Another man who got excommunicated said that the rest of the congregation stood up and applauded as the Democrats were told to leave."

2. A Baptist church in NC told its members that anyone who planned
to vote for John Kerry or the Democratic party must repent and vote for GWB or leave the church. Apparently, several members left.

6. But the pastor claimed it wasn't political.
Refused to be on camera but he said it was over abortion and gay marriage. The DUer that broke the story got an email from her mom from the area, one of the things her mom said was as they exited the church some of the members applauded. But some 40 someting members walked out in protest.

25. Uh... Kerry was against gay marriage. So how was it about that?
The pastor is such a 'tard that he didn't know Kerry's position?

35. We need strong moderate voices...like Kerry to open his yap.
This is what will be the start.

The Fundy's that will not give food to a Catholic food bank. The churchmembers called out for voting wrong and expelled. The Catholic church revoking an invitation for a politician to speak.

Time for strong voices from us.

We get compliance and head nodding. Worse than enabling.

Who is finally going to stop walking on eggshells? Who in our party is going to call out the republicans?

5. It seems that a baptist church in NC for all intents and purpose
told its members that if they "sinned" and voted for Kerry and/or are democrats, it would be best for them if they left the church.

Sadly, having been in southern baptist churches all my life until last year (now I'm a methodist, where they actually teach what Christ taught, not what some right wing leader spews from focus on the family or CBN), I could easily see this happening. Its certainly implied almost every time you sit thru a service, go to a Sunday School class, or ESPECIALLY if you're at a men's gathering.

19. Um... I hate to tell you but the Methodists are going whacko too...
My mother age 87 is a second generation life-long Methodist (raised me there, too); my mom and dad built our local Methodist church (as in she got it started and he served as Chair of the Building Committee).

Her Methodist Church hired a fundie nutjob who brought in Dobson's "Focus on the Family" crap... well when they started an official "circle" to "protect marriage" (from -- gasp -- GAYS!) and basically started holding HATE group meetings in the church, that was the end. She has started going to a local Presbyterian church.

The Methodists just built on a BIG gym (I guess the better to hold their anti-gay meetings) with HUGE lightning rods on it... hmmmm I think they NEED them, God's liable to be pissed!

;-)

I am forced to ask whether Baptist preachers represent Jesus or his nemesis in Hell. These preachers are the American Taliban. I guess that the best way to prevent the destruction of democracy in Iraq is to create a theocracy Christatollah here.

17. Jesus taught tolerance if not acceptance. Jesus would never do this.
Edited on Thu May-05-05 11:59 PM by Selatius
The issue isn't so clear-cut.

If I break down the argument into is crude components, you have this:

On one hand, you have a candidate who professes to be pro-life, but he is anti-worker, anti-environment, bigoted against gays, panders to the rich, attacks programs to aid the poor/needy, and starts wars that kills many people.

On the other hand, you have a candidate who is more pragmatic with the issue of abortion, is more pro-worker, pro-environment, more hesitant to wage wars, more tolerant of homosexuality, more supportive of social programs to aid the poor/needy.

By using God's precious gift of reason, the answer becomes obvious. If forced to choose between two outcomes that are damaging, the imperative is to choose the least damaging one not only for your sake but for the sake of everyone else.

What this pastor did goes against God's will because he attempts to take away another of God's gifts: Free will. He used coercive measures to force an outcome that he found acceptable, and this is a violation of that gift in that he has attempted to infringe on everyone else's right to choose freely by trying to make the choice for them as if he was superior to his fellow human beings. That's the mark of outright arrogance and pride.

22. Jesus wasn't always tolerant
Just because he said the Pharisees
"bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers" and
"devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayer"
and "outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity."
and so on...
Just because they are greedy, selfish hypocrites he calls them vipers, fools, scorpions and suggests damnation.

Even Jesus had his limits of tolerance.
It just has nothing to do with this church and the current batch of pharisees, Oops, not pharisees, a little slip of the keyboard. I meant republicans.

found here at DU is closely aligned with that of Jesus Christ himself.

"Vipers and Scorpions" that should go to hell? Interesting. So much for those who think DU sometimes sounds like freeperland in our heated denunciations of the Pharisees in DC.

And the people who donate to their coffers should not be allowed to deduct their contributions on their tax returns, either. Said contributions are clearly going to a political cause.

20. The War Prayer
"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle -- be Thou near them! With them -- in spirit -- we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

Christians have the right to walk away knocking the dust off their shoes at the edge of town, not to kick out the residents.

And, Matthew 22 gives an outline of due process, which I do not see.
