Returning sailor from 2 tours in Iraq - "We're too tired"
A former student I taught when he was in 6th grade (ouch) was in town on leave from his second stint in Iraq. He said he was done with overseas, and was being transfered to San Diego. Good kid, was celebrating his 21st birthday with his family at a local restaurant (where I saw him).

I told him I was so thankful he was okay. Then, I asked, "Where are we going next? Iran, Syria?" He replied, "We can't go anywhere else. We're tired, and there's not enough of us. Plus, we've spent so much on this war, and there's not enough money left."

Lee was so right, but the neocons don't let little things like more deaths and money to stop them from their plans. I didn't say this to him - just thanked him for his service and that I was proud he had been one of my students.

2. Why is a Sailor complaining?
Too Tired after 2 tours of duty in 3 years? In the Navy? I don't want to sound mean, but come on. I hope he doesn't complain this way within earshot of a Marine.

Other than that, though, I am grateful for his service and he should be proud for signing up.

3. There are plenty of sailors with boots on the ground.

And gunboats are not exactly easy duty.

On edit: Come to think of it, neither is missle prep and launch, aircraft maintenance, prep, and armament (especially during time of war), and duty on subs is NEVER easy. What the hell are you talking about? Wartime living at sea is hell.

4. When he said "we" I don't believe he meant just the navy
He meant all forces in general.

5. I was in the Navy
during the first Gulf War...let me tell you...it's not easy work...there are threats to naval ships...look what happend to the USS Cole...ships are vulnerable.

And yes there are many Navy Boots on the ground in Iraq...if you look at the list of soldiers that have died in this illegal war so far you will see some Navy men listed...

6. I was going to jump in on this, too.
I see the rest of the fleet has beat me to it.
