"U.S. Can't Account for $100 MILLION Spent in Iraq"
"The U.S. risks fostering a culture of corruption in Iraq."- Sen. Feingold

WASHINGTON - U.S. civilian authorities in Iraq cannot properly account for nearly $100 million that was supposed to have been spent on reconstruction projects in south-central Iraq, government investigators said Wednesday.

There are indications of fraud in the use of the $96.6 million, according to a report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction. A separate investigation of possible wrongdoing continues.

More than $7 million of the total is unaccounted for, the report said. An additional $89.4 million in payments do not have the required supporting documents.

The report accused civilian contract managers of "simply washing accounts" to try to make the books balance. Staffing shortages and the quick turnover of those responsible for the cash contributed to the problems, the report said.

4. Truth be told, I'm more worried about the 300+ tons of explosives
that were looted AFTER we cut the I.A.E.A. seals off them and left with nobody guarding the sites!

How many soldiers are dead now because of that utter incompetence?

7. Not to mention
the money lost because some of the CIA's clients by-passed the middle man and got their supplies directly.

11. At least 4 billion of Iraq money lost (stolen?) by the CPA.
Iraq: the missing billions
23 Oct 2003

A staggering US$4 billion in oil revenues and other Iraqi funds earmarked for the reconstruction of the country has disappeared into opaque bank accounts administered by the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), the US-controlled body that rules Iraq. By the end of the year, if nothing changes in the way this cash is accounted for, that figure will double.

2. I hate it when that happens
One minute you have 100 million dollars, then you put it down somewhere and it's gone.

5. What do you expect
from an administration that can't account for *'s whereabouts during his National Guard duty? Things like this require accountability.

8. Check Halliburtons pockets!
Edited on Wed May-04-05 11:33 PM by Wizard777
They had the missing money from the oil ministry. They had the missing money from the coalition provisional authority. They should not have had access to either account. There have been no arrests. Hey! It's true. You will do more time for stealing $20.00 that $20 Billion. Hmmmmmm.......:dilemma: Nah, I'm better than that!
