Subject: New Army Field Manual for "Civil Disturbance Operations" (PDF)

A new U.S. Army field manual articulates military doctrine for confronting civil unrest abroad and at home.

In addition to covering civil unrest doctrine for OCONUS operations, addresses domestic unrest and the military role in providing assistance to civil authorities requesting it for civil disturbance operations.

See Field Manual (FM) 3-19.15, "Civil Disturbance Operations," 18 April 2005 (256 pages, 5.6 MB PDF file):

16. This is what the Iraq is for, to get our troops ready for shooting
Americans.

I was in the military for 4 years, young and stupid.

We had training for crowd control, not all of us would have went along with it, but enough would.

There are enough Lynndie England types to cause major injuries and death, don't think it can't happen.

6. Must Read
Every anti-war and other progressive organization that plans on organizing mass protests needs to study this manual.

I'm making this a greatest.

22. I am curious
how these tactics would be applied to a Gandhian-type of 100% peaceful demonstration? What is the measure called for if a non-violent group of people simply point out that the president is of the lowest moral character?

23. good question----I think even a peaceful domonstration would be seen-*
as a threat to our national secuity (and to the President himself)

Would be lovely to imagine though.

24. I actually believe
that the administration would find a peaceful demonstration far more threatening than a rowdy one. I think this administration fears the Bill of Rights.

11. Peak Oil Prep?
I'm not kidding. With the Iraq adventure looking like a (ahem) miserable failure, and general decline in the various fields, I wonder if we might not be seeing an effort to control us when the peak hits?

18. Yeah. I think they could do it and think nothing of it.
It's called years of brainwashing from Shoot-um-up video games to the conditioning of the military.

Imagine how many are right here, watching everything we write and pretending to be like-minded.

We need to remain calm, brave and steadfast. Never in my lifetime did I ever see it come to this. How can so many Americans be so blind, so willing to follow a "mere man..." and "idolize" him/them like their some sort of "God?"

25. these techniques will be used within the US
read the first lines of the manual:

"Field Manual (FM) 3-19.15 addresses continental United States (CONUS) and outside continental United States (OCONUS) civil disturbance operations."

A lot of police officers are ex-military and a lot of tactics used by the NYPD during the Republican convention are those of "Urban Warfare".

A must read.
