4. Unfortunately he needs a whole lot more than that.
The $25K was a 50% deposit for the surgery. Not to mention all that he will need to sustain him through the whole treatment. The fact that we reached the goal of having the deposit in time is beyond beautiful but the battle continues.

11. I wasn't able to donate this time, but I figured he'd have a harder time
getting the next $25k together anyway, and I should be able to chip in at that point.

Andy, I don't know you, but I'm glad you got the money together and I wish you the best of luck with your surgery.

9. You may be a fascist killing machine but
underneath you're just a softie. (Don't let the kitty see you cry - he'll hold it against you.)

I must say, it's a pretty heart-warming way to start a week. It's fundamentally wrong that Andy needs to depend on friends and many, many strangers for health care. He has enough to worry about, money shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully, one day, the States will have a humane system for all.

I have to believe that this outpouring will be meeting more than just financial needs for Andy. This kind of love and support will help his recovery.

It boggles my mind that anyone would have to have a donation list set up for life-saving surgery/care. I honestly cannot wrap my mind around it. As much as the Canadian health care system needs work, I've not known anyone (myself included) who ever had to suffer, financially, for health care. I just thank the luck of the draw that I was born here. And, not to get too maudlin, but, all good thoughts to you Andy.

17. It is frustrating, but I think with the exposure
(thanks to people like you), he'll get what he needs to pay off the surgery and to help him heal. From what I can gather, that $25k portion that was raised as of today is just from DUers.

I'm more than happy to send off some cash to Andy to help out- it is just that everytime I drop an envelope in the mail to him I cannot help but wonder about those that don't have the wonderful network of friends.

We need universal health care.

19. FOR ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO HELPED ANDY PLEASE READ!!
I WILL REPEAT THIS POST ON EACH BOARD FOR ANDY!!

a little over a week ago ..my hubby and i through my hubby boss got andy into john's hopkins for this surgery..and thursday morning andy got a call he needed $25,000. for a down payment for the surgery..there were many tears all around.because thursday..it seemed insurmountable...there were andy's tears , my tears...termites tears...i am not good with insurance stuff..beth is!! so beth stepped up to the plate to try to negotiate with the hospital..well we were too soon find out..people without insurance have no negotiating power...we were given and either or..either we got the money or andy's surgery was going to be canceled...and thats how this adventure began....

and it was all of you..not us..all of you who did this for andy...

you gave , you came you read..there were testimonials..there was love all around for andy...and it was also love of our place..our community..at du and our progressives all over the country,..this was a national campaign..this was for andy but it was also for all of us...it was us not fighting , not bickering..not one upping anyone..it was a collective effort by all..

i just am so damn proud of all of you..and i am the proudest woman to call all of you my friend...and i know beth and andy and termite feel the same way...

we did the impossible...and we did it with love and respect, and joy!!

many gave what they didn't have ..of WHICH MANY will do without.. to have given..but what you gave wasn't money..you gave love..you gave of yourselves something so much more powerful than money...you gave a piece of your hearts...

ahhh that is what makes one wealthy...not money..but the heart you share!!

i love you all...i know i was silly much of the time..so we would not all get bored..or complacent..but you showed me what people are..what damn good loving people you all are...and today..i am so proud to know each and everyone of you!!!

THIS CAMPAIGN CAN NOT END HERE..THIS IS ONLY 1/2 OF THE MONEY ANDY MUST PAY FOR THIS SURGERY...AND HE WILL NEED TIME TO RECOUPERATE...

IF YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN YET AND STILL WANT TO PLEASE DO SO..ANDY HAS A LONG WAY TO GO ...BUT WE KNOW NOW HE WILL GET THE SURGERY HE NEEDS!!
PLEASE GO TO THIS BOARD TO DONATE!!

23. Recuperation and / or any chemotherapy or radiation treatment will
be a very vulnerable time for Andy. Trust me. I was very vulnerable just before and after surgery. I still feel vulnerable. Having money will help a lot with the vulnerability. :) It's too bad, but money does equal power.

22. Thanks, everybody
Last week, I gave some money to Andy and this week, as soon as I get paid, I'll send him some more.

I don't know him, never met him, but this is the right thing to do.

Get well, Andy, as you can see, this world needs you!

And you too, Will!
