1. Laura's bravura performance won't help her pathetic husband
Remember, Babs Bush was so much more popular than Poppy, but that didn't save him. Jokes won't take people's minds off all the crap that's going down.

2. No, white house aides, clearly.
The jokes were, we're so stupid, we are so mean--which are only funny and self deprecating if the tellers aren't stupid and aren't mean.

So when everybody laughs, voila---the WH premise is bought, or at least SEEMS bought to anyone listening to the clips on CNN.

For those of us who don't take cues from press suckups and idiots after a few, the jokes were sickening, not funny.

4. What were the jokes? I missed it.
But undoubtedly she has her own joke writers. They might not be on staff - they might be people she consults from time to time. But no way would they rely only on Leno's staff to come up with bits for her.

3. Didn't you find it odd that the wifely half of the "First Christians"
was making jokes about watching a show vilified by the Christian right and about going to Chippendales and stuffing dollar bills in the "undies" of male dancers?

The jokes were good and she had good delivery, but all I could think was that it wouldn't play well with the "values" crowd.

5. See my post number 2
It's funny because it's so out of character, just as Babs being a bitch and George an idiot is so out of character. Or so they want you to believe.

9. Pickles called Barfbara 'Don Corleone.'
I kid you not, Brother UTUSN! Someone must've slipped her some sodium pentathol because she said (paraphrasing):

"Most people think of Barbara as a sort of Aunt Bee from Andy Griffith. The truth is she's Don Corleone."

Laughed so hard I almost snorted the Tanqueray out my red nose.

15. Freepers say: "Our 'president' will be remembered as a horse masturbator."
Pickles has got that right. Smirko McKillKill is one sick puppy.

I can see why she'd want him to keep company with the horses.

On an official visit to Canada, Bushler said to a stranger "You've got a pretty face." Nothing twisted in being homosexual; the sick part comes in doing all he can to win political points at the expense of gays and civil rights. The irony comes in what the whacko religious Reich has to say, who are furious Pickles spelled out what this fellow already knows:

Bush prefers Martin spokesman to his own

by Jane Taber, Globe and Mail

Ottawa — This is the tale of the two Scotts — one American, the other Canadian. One is dark-haired, the other blond. Both are 35 and both work for the most powerful men in their respective countries.

SNIP...

“Well, what do you do for this guy?” the President asked as he pointed to the Prime Minister.

“Well, you know, sir, I can't really say,” Mr. Reid said. “It's not that I don't want to. It's just that, you know, I don't really know from day to day.”

This is true. Mr. Reid handles a number of files and performs a number of different duties, depending on the issue and the day.

The President chuckled. “Well, you got a pretty face,” he told the surprised Mr. Reid. He wasn't done. “You got a pretty face,” he said again. “You're a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott anyway.”

13. You're absolutely right!
She was responsible for the twin's awful 'comedy' routine at the Repug convention last summer, and Laura's awful performance last night reminded me of that.

17. She could have at least read them once or twice
before she tried to deliver them. She looked like she was read them for the first time. Look down read a few words. look down read a few more words. look up, look down. I don't expect her to memorize them, but please, act like you're telling a story not reading the newspaper.
