Official "Guy James Show" thread--Please keep kicked. Pubbie love tonight
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 04:35 PM by BeachBuckeye
Yes, we have some "Pubbie" love letters to read to you tonight. They are in rare form this week.

We've got lots to talk about including Bush's "wonderful" press conference performance:) Jeezus, could Elmer Fudd have been any worse? Do you think he was wired? I do!

And of course we have the filibuster fight, Jeff Gannon, the economic news, Tom DeLay, and a whole lot more.

Call in with your views. 888-602-7500, 7501, 7502, 7503, 7504
Or, tune in locally at 1240AM in Ft. Myers Florida or 1270WNOG in Naples, Florida.

And if you can, please feed the piggy bank. Its getting VERY lean!

Guy

4. The presser
Guy, et al. I found this from Liberal Oasis. If Bush is Elmer Fudd then the presser told the world it is lame-duck season and not wabbit season.

From Liberal Oasis

After last night’s press conference, it appears he’s quacking much earlier than he thought.

SNIP

... if you’re going to demand an hour of the public’s TV time in order to regain relevance, you better have something relevant to say.

Bush didn’t.

He only came in with a wisp of new news, an overt embrace of Social Security benefit cuts, something the White House has signaled for some time.

Otherwise, it was a lot of talking points rehash.

http://www.liberaloasis.com/archives/042405.htm#042905

From this, we should not celebrate the end of Bush. In fact, we now live in more dangerous times. Both the Senate and the House are being controlled by new-cons who are arguably more dangerous to the constitution than Dub-ya ever was. Just thought I would mention as something to chew on.

8. I'm here for a little while.
I've been racing back and forth, doing 1800 mile round trips the last month, with little computer time available. My computer is packed, and destined to be that way for at least another week. Then the unpacking, making sure I have internet access, etc.; I'm on a borrowed computer, and it took me awhile to get the stream working from this one. It's a little choppy from here.

I did get a chance to listen to archives last week while I was packing, the day before I packed my computer!

I don't think I can call from here; I don't think they'll want me tying up both the computer and the phone. But I'm here anyway, listening 800 or so miles north of my previous home, while all of my things are enroute, and my new place, another 45 miles north, waits to be ready. I'm in limbo, but listening in when I get the chance.

12. Probably not as tired as I've made me!
In another couple of weeks, I should be all settled into the new place and can go back to regularly scheduled programming ;-)

Meanwhile, some cyber backrubs would be good for the spasm I'm currently dealing with. Did I mention that I got my tv and printer all 800 miles north, and then promptly dropped them onto the driveway when unloading? I should have left it until the next day, after 14 hours on the road, but I needed the truck clear for another trip the next morning!

It is easier keeping track of his failures, but I need a better computer than the the one I have to keep track of them.

11. Illegal immigration;
a hot topic.

I could argue either side of the fence, but the bottom line for me is:

Who is going to do the work they do, if they aren't here? Who benefits from cheap illegal labor the most? The employers, as far as I can see. As long as the right continues to beat the drums about those "freeloading" illegals, they have a strong incentive to raise dropout levels and decrease the standard of living for so many Americans. If we don't import cheap labor, we have to have a homegrown source for those jobs that can't be outsourced, and making sure that we keep a population of under-educated, desperate American citizens who will work for anything, and spend their blood on foreign soil for a chance for survival, is essential to them. You know that they're never going to support a living wage for Americans, let alone "imported" workers.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on Andy's condition. We wish him the very best.

BTW Guy, our local DEC had a breakfast this AM. Speaker was Jim Davis. I cornered him on my pet issue - travel to Cuba. Davis thinks Americans should not be allowed to go to Cuba! He lost my potential vote right there and then!

27. Thanks for the appeal for Andy's medical fund Guy
It is sad that Andy has to rely on the kindness his DU family and others to raise money for his operation due to the fact that he does not have any health insurance. This would be unthinkable in every other advanced country in the world where health care is considered a human right and not a luxury.

Some Iraq Analysts Felt Pressure From Cheney Visits

By Walter Pincus and Dana Priest
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, June 5, 2003; Page A01

Vice President Cheney and his most senior aide made multiple trips to the CIA over the past year to question analysts studying Iraq's weapons programs and alleged links to al Qaeda, creating an environment in which some analysts felt they were being pressured to make their assessments fit with the Bush administration's policy objectives, according to senior intelligence officials.
