Follow-up: What is your definition of "progressive" and of "liberal"?
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 06:54 PM by Just Me
After defining a "progressive" and a "liberal", explain how would you propose they go about uniting to combat the right-wing corporocrat machine that is plowing over both?

Whoops! Meant to add that, this is intended to invite perspectives without evaluations of those perspectives.

NeoCon agenda, and the Christian RW, is a progressive because we are progressively gaining adherents who find Bush unfit for duty. Truthfully, the longer he stays in office with a dual Republican majority, the more his numbers will drop. I'm more afraid of an attempted "putsch" by the Administration and a full suspension of the Constitution -- which will bring Civil War.

Edited for: I didn't realize that WillPitt had a huge thread that ended up closed by the management on this topic. I will not respond further on this one if it decides to grow feet and trample.

3. I don't have any definitions -- esp. of progressive, a term I simply
consider a mealy-mouth capitulation to the demonization of the word liberal. And that won't help at all: as soon as it's taken hold, the right will demonize that too.

4. Okay. Define being liberal and how you propose uniting us.
To hell with the right.

Define what "liberal" is to you and propose a path to unity.

Progressive - someone who believes in reforming society to produce a more ideal future.

Liberal - someone who subscribes to a specific set of opinions about society and government

Depending on thier evaluation of the current state of things a liberal can be progressive or not. If you think things are relatively fitting with liberal ideas, or that it is impossible to improve them, you arent a progressive. If you think there are significant changes that can be made to make the nation more liberal, you are a progressive liberal.
