attention apple computer users: where can I find what programs will
work on an apple. Like a list of them, so I can compare with what software I currently use.

I have tons of programs for my PC and thinking about upgrading/getting a new one but not really interested in junking all my software and buying all new stuff. I have heard not much good software is available for apples since they have such a low market share.

(We had old macs in our school class rooms but they were all replaced by PCs eventually, especially since training kids on an apple was not feasable as far as real world job hunting, according to the district)

. . . run all Windows programs? I didn't know that.

I do know that my Mac runs everything I need. :D

2. I have an idea . . .
Why don't you provide a list of the software programs you're interested in and we'll tell you if they're available for the Mac.

4. software
Start here:
http://www.apple.com/switch/
What you have heard is typical ignorant FUD. I'm a Mac consultant, and hear this a lot, and what it boils down to is PCs have a lot of crappy software out there, and mos tpeople think quantity is quality. Office is cross platform, as is MM & Adobe. About the only problem is .wma files, which can easily be read on a Mac with freebie translators. Oh yes, you can get anti virus programs for Macs (a must for a PC), but Macs don't get viruses, or spyware, trojan horses, etc. Never have.

5. Here are some sites with
software you can download or buy.

http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/

Go to the macnn.com forums, register and ask some questions.

6. This is worth checking out....
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx

"Virtual PC for the Mac"

As I understand it none of PC software will work on a Mac without something like this installed. BUT there is a ton on Mac software available (just look for any popular software and it generally has a mac version available....EVEN Microsoft products - see the above site)

9. You'll need to buy a used G4 tower to install two CD-type drives
The last G4 before the G5 came out--truly kick-ass machines--had two open drive bays in the front.

I've also seen FireWire CD-RW drives. If you snag one of those, you can do two CD-type drives on any Mac including the Minis.
