Need Bolton to reform UN? gimme a break
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 02:36 PM by ewagner
In case you haven't noticed, that's the administration's latest rationale for nominating Bolton. It goes something like this: The UN needs reforming; It's going to be a tough job; we need a tough person to do it; Bolton is tough therefore we need Bolton....

I CALL BULLSHIT!

Two points:

First this "reform the UN crap never came up until Bolton was in trouble with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and

Second, If the UN needs reforming, then it's up to the UN to lead the effort, not the US Ambassador to the UN....

of course, the talking heads are buying it and asking guests "Is Bolton tough enough to reform the UN?" (paraphrasing of course.)

When the hell are these morons going to wake up and stop swallowing the Bushit, hook, line and sinker......??????

1. A more sophisticated argument would be that the US needs to reform
its relationship with the UN (which is true, since we got caught lying there and have stirred up a nonsensical "scandal" over the oil-for-food program, that leads back to Americans anyway). And John Bolton is STILL not the right person for that job. John Bolton is not the right person to pick up dog doo from the rose garden outside the UN. He is not right for any job anywhere near the UN.

3. You're right
that the US needs to reform it's relationship with the UN and you are equally correct that Bolton isn't qualified for that either....

but Bushco isn't capable of making even that argument.....

2. Some asshole in town in a local LTTE regurgitated the same points
That the UN needs reforming, and that if they can't be reformed, we should stop sending them money so that they can form a world government that lives off American tax dollars.

No lie, that's what the asshole said. It's not a verbatim quote, but that's what he said.

how * would try to reform an organization made up of many nations. This is not a US Government institution or agency, its a separate entity. Its nothing but a continuing line of Republican & Bush administration hog wash designed to deflect from the real problems.

The UN has been made out to be an evil organization with designs on overthrowing US rule. It so ridiculous but people fall for it. I wonder if it was based in say London instead of NY, would the same evil empire tactic be used.

6. Ya know....
it's getting a little old.....the Frank Luntz tactic of labeling everything as "reform" when in fact it has nothing to do with reform and EVERYTHING to do with their right wing agenda....

5. Every time they use the word "reform," substitue "destroy."
Then their statements make perfect (if troubling) sense.
