Ed Schultz - Why aren't Dem's out attacking Bush's Press Conference?
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 02:28 PM by Quixote1818
He makes a good point. The Right is much better at working the airwaves after a press conference. We should be pouncing hard on Bush right now. Where is everyone?

1. ...
The congressman is doing a decent job of it right now.

Democrats have traditionally depended on people reading editorials, and other printed media, to get their point across. This is still effective, but not among as many people since more folks get their news "exclusively" from a) the radio or b) television than ever before. Thus the danger of Limbaugh and Fox news...

2. Here Is The Problem.
Right-wing mouthpieces are allowed on talk shows to spew their side of the issue by themselves. Whenever a Left-winger does the same he/she is always "balanced" by a Righty or two. The Righty then proceeds to give 5 minute answers (filibuster)to yes and no questions and talk over the liberal when they are making their point.

3. Exactly
A democrat can't get on any show anymore and be given a fair chance to speak. I think it's fucking ridiculous. That's why I don't watch any of that anymore. Just Daily show and CSPAN.

4. Let Me Guess
Howard Dean and the Democratic Party have forgotten how to call a news conference?

That makes a much sense as anything I've read so far.

Ya. Democratic Party leaders just can't get on TV and radio anymore. If that's true, let them buy the fricken time!

And if Democrats just can't handle right-wingnuts in debates what the hell are they good for?

6. Exactly, all they have to do is put out a press release attacking
his press conference point by point. Howard Dean could do a press conference and nail Bush.

10. And Who Would...
read that press release on the air? Politicians put out press releases every day. Do you hear them being read anywhere?

9. Well,...
just because they may have the money doesn't mean that the networks will allow them to buy the time. It's hard to handle anyone in a debate if the moderator allows (and even participates)in the activities I mentioned above.

12. The solution is simple, but maybe a bit pricey.
We need an in-house booking agency. The Heritage Foundation has dozens of their "experts" ready at the drop of a hat.

We need the same--our toughest, most charismatic people ready at a moment's notice.

Why can't we see Jim Hightower or Al Franken taking on the opposition?

They'd be devastated by smart liberals with senses of humor.

DNC Responds to President Bush's Press Conference
Washington, DC - The Democratic National Committee issued the following reaction to President Bush's press conference:

"If that performance was supposed to put Bush's second term back on track, Americans are in for 3 1/2 years of great storytelling, but no real solutions to their problems.

"The President contradicted himself calling the bonds in Social Security worthless IOUs in a filing cabinet, but then referred to the same bonds in private accounts as backed by the full faith of the American government. Is he really suggesting that while we will re-pay debts to foreign countries we won't re-pay debts to our own people?

"Thankfully he didnt preempt 'Survivor,' otherwise there would be no reality on TV tonight," said Karen Finney, DNC Communications Director."

11. I been attacking for years...
And it just never made a bit of difference (it seemed) and so I just sit back now and watch my Republican friends get a puzzled look on their face. Slowly the are coming around. It seems a bit like an alcoholic, they got to figure out for themselves that they have a problem. The 2004 election was so divisive that it seems nobody from either side is listening to the other. And so the Dems strategy might be working: OK Republicans, there's your man, what do you think?
