What is it with Christian conservatives?
I don't have a problem with some of the basic precepts of Christianity. But the religious conservatives want people to be in pain. They thrive on it. It makes it easier for them to ram their beliefs down peoples' throats. We should all try to seek something spiritual either within ourselves or this world or from beyond. But, I get sick of people taking something that is nice on some level and giving it to me in some limited, rigid form and telling me that I must accept this or be condemned. Faith in any case is a journey. The answers don't just come in a split second. But they want to make it simplistic, for their own sakes so it appeals to the lowest common denominator. And it makes it so much easier to foist something that would generally be unpalatable on people. This I find very upsetting, especially when they do it to people that are emotionally vulnerable. Furthermore, some of them finger-point and lay blame. THey have been name calling and demonizing other people, many of whom are Christians too. They speak of love and freedom and practice hate and repression. None of them want to listen to anybody who is not "one of them". God, it makes me so mad, I could scream.

2. It's simple
They can't stand being wrong because they laid their faith on the infallibility of the Bible. They believe every word in it is the divine teachine of God. Yet, when it comes to parts of the Bible that they could never sell to an enlightened public they tend to gloss over their inconsistant position -- "Slaves be obedient to their Masters." and the incessant quoting from Leviticus 7 (ask them if they enjoyed their pork dinner)for example.
I think because they're so afraid that if too many other parts of the Bible are changed they may have to re-think for position. So, they attack anyone or anything they feel could be a threat to their tottering world view.
My answer to a christian conservative when they quote something so inane and say it's from the Bible, I ask them where. If they give me an answer from the Old Testament, I say, "What did Jesus say about that?"

3. These people just have so much hate in their hearts
that they have to share it with others or they will explode. :nuke:

But it's not always their fault. Most of them have been indoctrinated into this crap since birth, and simply are not strong enough to break free like others are/have been.

6. Mr. kt was indoctrinated at birth... thatk God/dess he had the strength
to break free. We're spiritual. We're Catholic (he was raised Southern Baptist. His parents didn't speak to him for months and sent him hate mail when he chose to attend a Catholic church.) but we don't buy into much of what the pope is peddling. In fact, we don't even go to Mass any longer. We're just too uncomfortable.

We are still on a spiritual journey, and consider ourselves religious, but we can't go to a church that no longer cares about the social justice that it use to champion.

If others are able to find a fulfilling church, we applaude you. We are still ssearching.

5. Ones Faith
I truly believe that ones faith is very personal between them and God. The Republican party is using the conservative to push their own agenda not because they are good Christians. When was the last time any one of them did a good deed for someone else. If a person truly believes you will never be able to change their mind and if a person does not believe you won't change his either. If people would mind their business in this country it would be a much better place to live.

8. This round of Christian Conservatives are really the fringe
who support killing of the innocents, war, and Bush. They are trendies. In and out.

9. It's very simple:
They are not true Christians. I'm surprise that when they hold the Bible it doesn't burn their hands.
