Important: We did it, Now we have a week...

In one week we pushed to get heard in almost every media outlet regarding the FOIA and Gannon thing. In this same week, given very short notice, we managed to pressure the Real ID conference to postpone their decision. The smoke and mirror is the Iraq embassy, the reality is that we are screaming our heads off.

Now, we have one week, that is more time, but not much. YOU must keep the pressure on to stop the Real ID nightmare. This is my suggestion for what we want (or just add your own):

1). The Real ID Act must not be part of the military appropriations/tsunami relief bill. It must be brought to the floor and debated openly.

2). If it will not be voted on separately and openly, then we walk from the Dem party. I know this sounds harsh, but so does the removal of the Bill of Rights, which no one has noticed (because they read maybe a few pages of this crappy legislation). Yes, the soldiers need money, but we keep giving money and it does not go to the soldiers, so what assurances do we have that our money will get to them? Where is the 9 billion?

3). The other option is that the Real ID should be shelved and the spending bill passed. Like the Patriot Act, our leaders are passing a bill they have not read attached to a spending bill that they must pass. We, the people, have a say on the Bill of Rights, no?

So, we won the battle by getting one more week. The rest is up to you. Call, write, scream, email, contact media, Congress, etc. Make yourself heard.

Okay, sorry for that huge screaming fest, but the Bill of Rights is the only reason I consider myself an American. Without the Bill of Rights, there is no America to be part of. That is how strongly I feel.

3. Where are the weak spots where we can apply pressure?

Am I correct in thinking that the reconciliation committee produces a version that then goes right back to both the Senate and the House for a final vote?

If so, is there any way we can force them to open the process up? To let the Democrats in on the reconciliation process? To debate the final version before voting?

Or is our only course now to make so much of a general stink that they think better of the whole deal?

It would help to know whether there are specific places (and specific legislators) where we could focus our efforts.
