Frist angers conservatives by distancing from DeLay
Looks like the zealots are starting to turn on their own; apparently the Senator didn't have enough fire and brimstone in his speech yesterday to satisfy their bloodlust.

I thought his remarks seemed mild compared to what the tone has been coming out of the GOP. The must have polling data that says this filibuster thing is not going their way.

Conservatives yesterday expressed anger at Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist for what they described as his swipe at House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
Mr. DeLay, Texas Republican, said last month that judges who denied appeals by Terri Schiavo's relatives who were trying to keep the brain-damaged Florida woman alive must "answer for their behavior."
Mr. Frist, Tennessee Republican, did not mention Mr. DeLay by name in a taped address to a Sunday rally of Christian conservatives, but disavowed "retaliation" against federal judges.

1. I guess the "pretend to be a fascist" club is quickly wearing off....
Frist doesn't seem to be too crafty with his speeches anymore, and doesn't seem to really care about being the official voice for the extreme religious right.

10. Whaaaa...
doesn't want to be the voice of the extreme religious right? There's a new phrase that's been coined, "Fristians" and it describes the Talibornagains relationship to Frist to a tee.
Frist has is no way deserted his "base". He might be toning down the rhetoric somewhat, but he'll be speaking in Fristian "code" very soon. You can bet on that.

2. Geee...
the Republican Party finally found out it's not so different from the Democratic Party-- people actually disagree on things.

They also seem to have found out tht they can't control everything. And that it is possible for them to jump the shark.

So, we have some running for President in '08, a whole bunch running for Congress in '06, and still more just trying grab as much as they can while they can.

Just sit back and watch the fun.

12. Good news... but it's us that need to keep the noise up on Delay...
It's already starting to die down a little bit. Hopefully, Bush taking Delay along on his BS SS trip will help to keep it going.

16. Why is he taking DeLay??
 Maybe it's a farewell thing? I don't know. Or maybe Bush is planning to get rid of him and this way it can't be plamed on Bush and his administration.

14. External polls shows 2-1 Americans AGAINST changing the rules
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2004/10/26/AR2005032201677.html

But by a 2 to 1 ratio, the public rejected easing Senate rules in a way that would make it harder for Democratic senators to prevent final action on Bush's nominees. Even many Republicans were reluctant to abandon current Senate confirmation procedures: Nearly half opposed any rule changes, joining eight in 10 Democrats and seven in 10 political independents, the poll found.

Much like the same ratio as against interference in the Schiavo case.

GOP leadership is WAY out of touch with America.

He's saying how they're changing the language of the debate. They are out of touch. Only they don't give a damn.

18. GOP leadership is WAY out of touch with America.
Radicalism tends to do that to people. I was shocked at how toned down Bill Frist speech to the Just Us Sunday crowd was as I expected a real hell, fire, and brimstone rambling.

The Terri Schiavo case, and now the filibuster debacle may have been excesses that even the politically clueless in America can understand, and conclude that this is not what they want in their government. Now if the Dems will just keep this on the front page and not allow these zealots to sweep it under the rug things could get better here.
