The Cost of the Iraq War April 24- $165,260,248,812
And of course the real costs are beyond quantification.

Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear.

– General Douglas MacArthur

Where Do Your Tax Dollars Go? NPP's latest publication shows how the average household's tax dollars are spent for every state and 193 cities, towns and counties.

To the right you will find a running total of what taxpayers are spending on the Iraq War. This total is based on estimates from Congressional appropriations

What You Can Do:

• Bring the Stop the Merchants of Death Speakers Tour to your community to learn more about corporations profiting from the war and military occupation, paid for by your tax dollars. See www.warresisters.org/merchants_death.htm or call (212) 228-0450.
• Write the President and your representative and senators and demand that the military budget be cut.
• Write letters to the editor of your local paper. Send all of them copies of this flyer.

• Refuse to pay all or part of your income tax. Though illegal, thousands of Americans are openly participating in this form of protest. You can take control of your paycheck and avoid contributing to the military. Contact us for information or referral to a war tax resistance counselor near you, and check out www.warresisters.org/wtr.htm.

• Contribute resisted tax money to an organization working to help people (e.g., day care centers, health clinics, food banks, housing programs, human rights organizations) or to an alternative fund that pools tax money from resisters and gives grants to human needs and peace groups.

• Contact the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee, PO Box 150553, Brooklyn, NY 11215, (800)269-7464; email: nwtrcc@nwtrcc.com . Support the Peace Tax Fund bill to allow 100% of your taxes to fund nonmilitary programs: (888) 732-2382

1. Look at the number of kids that could have been insured with that money:
The War In Iraq Costs
$165,252,572,444

Instead, we could have insured 98,953,636 children for one year.

Interesting site. Thanks. Although it made me kind sick to be reminded about how sick we are as a society.

2. I was talking with a GOP friend who is against Bush Policies
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 11:10 PM by Erika
and think he's the worst president this country has ever had. But then she says she's glad she voted for Bush because Kerry could have really screwed up the country! Bush is the pied piper to her kind. She'd rather be a sheep under the worst president in history and go like lemmings into the sea than vote for a democrat.

Of course, she has profited extremely by his tax cuts to the rich. She also runs from conversations about the poor and those without health coverage, and Iraq. I guess she's like Babs Bush, why waste a beautiful mind by thinking of unpleasantries.

3. Has their propaganda convinced them to hate us that much?
I'll never understand how Bush and the deaf to the world republicans couldn't listen to a few real and important criticisms.

1.) We need to send "several hundreds of thousand" troops to keep the peace after the war.

2.) Don't disband the Iraqi army.

I guess they are so blinded by Rush and Hannity that they think Democrats can never be right. Their petty and childish refusal to believe we love our country and want her to succeed is pathetic.

Shame on them for not listening. Every death is firmly on their shoulders.

4. She and her husband own a "small" business
HVAC, 30 employees, 20 company vehicles. Her husband has told her Republicans are friendlier to small business. She and her husband bought an Escalade(?) with their first Bush tax cut. Her husband wanted a Hummer but she said no. She goes to church and has bought the propaganda that the GOP have higher family values. I've contested her on that and she's backed down from arguing with me. She knows how my family has lived their lives. In the meantime, she's paid detox and abortion charges for her own family.

They like the $ under Bush and don't want to think about the costs to the rest of society. She's a good person but doesn't want to think beyond their pocketbook. She has no idea of the difference in the parties when it comes down to that. None at all.
